New iOS Application for Viewing DCMP Media!

The Described and Captioned Media Program has a priority of making our resources accessible for all users on all types of devices. Based on client statistics and feedback, we recently focused our software development efforts on a native iOS app for iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad users. We launched our beta in December to a limited number of test clients and received very positive feedback. This new application makes viewing our media on iOS devices even easier!

Apple has approved our app, and it’s available for download now! To install the app, search for “DCMP” in the iTunes App Store or click here: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dcmp/id925783199 (iOS 7.0 required). Once installed, simply log in with your existing DCMP credentials and enjoy watching DCMP media in a faster, more integrated mobile interface. We have many new iOS app features in development, and we’ll announce those over the coming months.

If you need to register for a free DCMP member account, please visit: http://dcmp.org/signup. If you do not qualify for a DCMP account, you can still use our iOS app! Install the app and click “Continue as Guest” under the login button to view dozens of educational videos available to everyone.

While the app has worked well during our testing phase, software development isn’t a perfect science. Please help us improve the app by reporting any bugs or inconsistent behavior. We ask that clients provide feedback, feature requests, or bug reports to dev@dcmp.org, and one of our engineers will get back to you as soon as possible.

DCMP on TV: It’s Easier Than Ever!

Our iOS application launch (above) marks the DCMP's second app release in just over a year! In November 2013 we launched the DCMP channel on Roku. This new channel is the simplest solution to viewing DCMP media on your television or projector.

DCMP Media is Now Embeddable!

Most schools across the country are now implementing an LMS, or “Learning Management System,” into their educational ecosystem. Examples include Moodle, Edmodo, Blackboard, and many others. An LMS provides students, teachers, and parents with a portal for structured communication, studying, quizzing, student collaboration, and resource sharing outside of the classroom. Teachers often link students to external resources that reinforce the concepts being taught in the classroom. This can include relevant websites and video content.

We’re proud to announce that DCMP video content is now able to be embedded into your LMS, CMS (“Content Management System,” such as WordPress), or virtually any other HTML-based web presentation. Embedding DCMP content into your LMS creates a convenient way to share additional resources with students that you might not otherwise have time for in the classroom.

To view embedded DCMP content, users must have a valid DCMP login. If a member is not already logged in, they will be prompted to log in inside the embedded video window. Creating subaccounts for each student and assigning permissions to any videos you wish for them to view is simple. Visit www.dcmp.org/subaccounts for more information.

We’ve created a demonstration video that walks members through finding a media item on the DCMP website, copying the embed code, and embedding that video into a Moodle lesson. To view the demo video, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVM2hheatBI.
