I'd like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Hanukkah, on behalf of both myself and my team! Thank you for all your support this year.

Since the last edition I have,

~  continued my schedule of regular work around Harrow East.

~  attended Harrow Churches Housing's 50th Anniversary Reception in the House of Commons.
~  joined in with annual Mitzvah Day activities at Belmont Synagogue once again this year, including a joint effort between the Synagogue and Stanmore Baptist Church to tidy up of the local area. Afterwards, I attended the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen memorial parade held at the Cenotaph on Whitehall.
~  held an open meeting with the First Stanmore Scout Group and interested parents to discuss the future location of the Scouts Hut on Whitchurch Playing Fields.

~ attended a memorial service for Mohammad Rizvi, the former Chairman Pakistan Society of Harrow, held at the Civic Centre by Harrow Asian Multi-cultural Association and Pakistan Society of Harrow.

~  taken part in a Harrow East orientated hustings held at the Shi’a Ithna’ashari Community of Middlesex (SICM) premises by the Muslim Forum of Middlesex. The event was chaired by Channel 4 news reporter, Fatima Manji.

~  joined the Speaker on a visit to North London Collegiate School to meet students and talk about our roles in the House of Commons as part of a wider educational outreach programme being overseen by Parliament.
~  celebrated Small Business Saturday with avisit to some popular local hotspots including Belmont Butchers, Shivams Sweet Shop, Belmont Pharmacy, Belmont Bay Fish and Chips (pictured), Nexus Mobile Shop, Belmont Barbers, Laws Garden and Tian Hu Chinese.
~  continued my work on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee and the Backbench Business Committee.
~ attended Harrow Mencap's Spectacular Christmas Dinner and Entertainment and donated a bottle of whiskey signed by the Prime Minister for the raffle.
~  joined activists at a STOPAIDS parliamentary event to mark World AIDS Day. UK investment has helped to transform the global HIV response. More than 13 million people now accessing treatment, up from only 700,000 ten years ago. AIDS-related deaths have declined from a peak of 2.2 million to 1.5 million in 2013.
~  attended an event to mark the 5th Anniversary of Caremark Harrow and to speak about health and social care locally. Caremark Harow is a local business based in Harrow Wealdstone which provides care and support services to all people over the age of 18 living within the Harrow borough.
~  continued my programme of events for the Bob Blackman Business Breakfast Club, a group which brings local business owners together to discuss trade and issues facing the sector over a hearty breakfast, with a guest speaker attending from the industries or from the political sphere.
~ chaired a panel debate event entitled ‘Quality Management: A Strategic Tool for UK PLC', to mark World Quality Day. The yearly event is to promote the awareness of quality internationally and to encourage development and prosperity among organisations. In 2011, Quality Management contributed £90 billion to the UK economy.
~  organised a visit to Bob Lawrence Library in Edgware for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Sajid Javid. The library has been placed under threat of closure by Harrow Council as part of a sweeping range of budget cuts and I am campaigned for it to remain open.

~  had a meeting with the Sri Lankan Acting High Commissioner, Dr Chanaka Talpahewa, to discuss the current issue of sectarian violence in the region.
~  had meetings with various colleagues, constituents and charity representatives to discuss the issues that matter to our area.

St Luke’s is the local hospice for Harrow and Brent and Bob has been a staunch supporter of their work since they began nearly 30 years ago. The hospice helps people whose illnesses are no longer curable, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life during the final stages of their illness through their in-patient unit, out-patient clinics, and day care unit.
