Happy New Year!  As we begin 2015, it's a great time to try new things.  Take to the trails on a fungus-finding mission.  Bring your camera or smartphone on your next adventure and submit your digital photos to our contest.  Or join a volunteer docent-led hike for a new perspective on your Open Space Preserves.

Everything's coming up...fungus!

With the winter rains, the forest is covered with an array of mushrooms and fungi.  It's a great time of the year to get out and explore the many microcosms at your feet, and in the branches and trunks of the surrounding trees. Peters Creek Trail in Long Ridge Open Space Preserve, and the Purisima Creek Trail in Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve are two great places to explore.  Remember, look and enjoy--but don't touch, removing any plants from District preserves is prohibited. Please help us protect our natural resources.

Just Picture It!

The next time you head out to a Midpen preserve remember your camera!  Our annual digital photo contest is underway and we're looking for your pictures of landscapes, wildlife, plant life, and people in the preserves.  There's even a category for photos taken on mobile devices, so you can enter those images too!

Each category winner will receive a GoPro HERO Camera and have their photo featured in the Summer edition of our Open Space Views newsletter.  More>>
