The Government Accountability Board yesterday discussed a new
audit of the agency. GAB Director Kevin Kennedy explained why it is beneficial to have a single board which oversees both elections and ethics and to have the big decisions made by former judges rather than political appointees. (

supports the nonpartisan GAB, and we believe the legislature should allocate funding for critical elections work to continue.
The League sent
this letter to the Department of Transportation-DMV, which is writing rules for issuing free state ID cards for voting. We noted that, unlike the
privilege to operate a motor vehicle, the
right to vote is a fundamental citizen right. If we must have voter ID, the rules should offer
maximum opportunity for citizens by imposing the
minimum burden required to comply with the law.
