Here's an excerpt from a short interview with author/editor Catherine Carvell, a speaker at the upcoming All In! Young Writers Media Festival 2015

How did you become an author of children’s literature?
As a small child, I loved books. I would read deep into the night, spellbound by the power of story. By the age of seven, I knew I would be an author. Unfortunately, as often happens in life, I grew up, landed a sensible government job, and lost sight of the original plan. But many years later, as I read to my two small children, I remembered how the books of my childhood had shaped me. My children were watching and learning from me, and I needed to show them that dreams were worth chasing. So I picked up my pen and this time, I didn't give up. Four years later, my lifelong dream came true.
