Merry Christmas

from the Hansens

at Rift Valley Academy
Kijabe, Kenya

Our winter break has begun, and the students have returned to their homes all across Africa. Still, a community of missionaries remains here in Kijabe where we celebrate Christmas together. There have been cookie exchanges, gingerbread showcases, caroling at the hospital, and a number of other gatherings.

We've been pleasantly surprised to have had a bit of cold weather this December, even though it is now the middle of summer here south of the Equator. Our fireplace has been crackling as we listen to our Christmas music and sip hot chocolate. We don't have a Christmas tree, but we make do. Eva has constructed this year's tree from our firewood, and it hangs above our mantel. Woolen afghan socks hang by our window, and a snowman crafted from cardboard adorns our front door. Our advent wreath of twisted cypress branches and eucalyptus seeds is the centerpiece on our dinner table.

We ask you to pray especially for our students this Christmas season. They have unique opportunities to share the love of Christ and the message of hope this season brings with a people walking in darkness. May the unreached people of Africa see the great light in Christ. We pray that our students are able to put into practice the faith that is taught and nurtured here at RVA.

Again, we thank you for your prayers and support that sustain us and our service here in Kenya. May you have a blessed Christmas season!
