A Night of Jazz Appreciation with Moses Howden and Les Sabina
Join us for a night of Jazz exploration. Mr. Howden and Dr. Sabina will provide an historic and practical insight into Jazz music, a true American music. They will explore the origins of Jazz, the people who played the music, and how improvisation, which is one of the important aspects of Jazz music, works and plays a significant part in the music. Mr. Howden and Dr. Sabina will provide musical examples, and give a live demonstration of improvisation, and explore it’s African historic roots, and how polyrhythms form a rhythmic foundation of the music. The presenters hope that those who attend the lecture will acquire a greater appreciation for Jazz, and its rightful place in American history and culture.

Blizzard of Books – Teen and Adult Winter Reading Program
January 26th – March 7th
The holidays are over, the weather is cold, curling up with a warm beverage and a book sounds absolutely delightful. From January 26th until March 7th, choose any books you like and read, read, read! Once you are finished with a book, make a snowflake (we will provide the paper – you provide the imagination) with the book title, author’s name, and 1-5 star (or snowflake) rating system. We will create a blizzard of titles within the library. Read a book, turn in a snowflake, and get a prize. It is that simple. Graphic novels, Audiobooks, and eAudiobooks all count.

Fill out a registration card at the Reference Desk starting on January 26th.

All events are free and open to the public.
