REP. TED DEUTCH TO CO-CHAIR
CONGRESSIONAL STUDY GROUP ON GERMANY

Joins leadership of 30-year-old bipartisan group that supports international dialogue

Washington, D.C.— Congressman Ted Deutch (D-FL) has been named the Democratic House Co-Chair of The Congressional Study Group on Germany (CSGG), a bipartisan organization dedicated to frank and candid dialogue between American lawmakers and their peers in Germany.

Deutch joins Rep. Charlie Dent, Senator Jeff Sessions, and Senator Jeanne Shaheen as the leadership of the 32-year old Study Group, which is an international program of the congressionally-chartered, 501(c)(3) non-profit U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC). Deutch replaces Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH), who led The Study Group in the 112th and 113th Congresses.

“I am honored to serve as the Co-Chair of the Congressional Study Group on Germany,” said Deutch.  “As we continue to face economic and security challenges around the world, U.S. – Germany cooperation is critical to stability and prosperity. I look forward to strengthening the partnership between the U.S. and Germany in areas of mutual importance to both our nations and transatlantic relations.”

Deutch is a member of the House Committees on Foreign Affairs, Ethics, and the Judiciary, and he also serves as an Assistant Democratic Whip. In his new role as Study Group co-chair, Deutch and will chair regular roundtables throughout the year on Capitol Hill for top German and U.S. leaders from government, journalism, academia, and industry, alongside his co-chair Dent. Both gentlemen will also lead a delegation of Members of Congress to Berlin and Dresden in May 2015 for the Study Group’s 32nd Annual Congress-Bundestag Seminar.

For thirty years, The Congressional Study Groups have provided substantive, issue-based opportunities for Members of Congress to engage with their counterparts abroad. The Study Groups are the flagship international programs of the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC), a bipartisan organization that works to promote public service, strengthen representative democracy, and keep both current and former Members of Congress educated, engaged, and empowered to serve their country. The Congressional Study Group on Germany is supported by the German Marshall Fund of the United States, Stiftung Atlantik-Brücke, and The Study Group’s Business Advisory Council.
