Hi Moms and Dads

This newsletter is a very important form of communication. If you do not receive one via email, please let Jane have your email so that we can send you one and if you would prefer a hard copy in your child’s pocket, please let Jane know so that we can do this for you!

We hope that you all had a good weekend and we are looking forward to a happy new week.
Thank you so much for your generosity last week and this week. We received many tins of non-perishable food stuffs as well as a few treats and other food items and toiletries for a family in our school who is in desperate need. So kind of all of you and much appreciated. I have sorted them into food parcels and handed them to the family concerned. Please keep them in your prayers and if next month you are able to donate again, please bring your items in to the office.
On Thursday we will be having a BABY SHOWER for Monica and Minus. Such a happy and special time for them. Monica has her last day on Friday and Mastoera will be taking over her assistant role in the Angelfish Class. We would like to give them a hamper of goodies, so please send in an item of toiletries, baby clothes, nappies etc and we will package it for you.

Class News

Sea Horse

Hello everybody.
We had a lovely visit from CMR last Friday. I will post some pictures on our ‘watsapp’ group chat this week.
The week our theme is: The Firefighter.
Our Focus: eye-hand coordination.
Please encourage cutting, threading, pegs or tearing and pasting at home.
Our EQ theme is: I am special.
We continue to rote count up to twenty and count 20 objects during our ring time every day.
We are also enjoying silly rhyming words before story. Learning is fun!!
Have a wonderful week
Bonta and Patience.

Sharks

EQ: Going for goals- taking responsibility for my actions/ tying a shoelace and skipping with a rope.
General: transport and road safety
Letter: T t
Numbers: 10-15
The children were delighted to be back at school and settled into the routine with ease. They had a busy week and participated eagerly in all the activities.
We started making a transport poster and will finish it next week. I am encouraging the children to try and write words. It doesn't matter if they make a mistake but it encourages them to identify sounds they hear in words and identify them on the alphabet chart. They were able to write helicoptr for helicopter which is very good.  It is another way to get them to link a sound to a letter. Please make them aware of print at home eg labels on food- corn flakes. This week we also compared yoghurt containers and grouped them according to their brand name. We then counted and compared them. Parmalat won, PnP was one less than Parmalat and there was only one Dairy Belle. It was a valuable exercise because it extended their language skills and maths skills. I will post pictures of the children doing this activity and of the poster so please join our closed facebook page.
In maths when identifying numbers we are continuing to identify them as numbers before/after/between and to use the terms more/less and equal.
In our EQ theme of Going for Goals I am challenging the children to work independently by helping to set out the tables and take responsibility when tidying up. They are also taking up the challenge of learning to tie a shoelace/ bow and skipping with a rope. Most of the group are coping with both tasks and are eager to learn. Please help them at home to learn to tie a bow.
Activities and events planned for l this term: 5 August FANSA will visit the Shark Class to present an educational show. Every year they visit the Grade R class and their shows are excellent.
18 Aug Aquarium Puppet show for all groups.
26 August I will be leaving school early to attend the NAPTOSA Conference is Somerset West. Merle will teach the class when I leave.
Our main fund raiser this term is Minute to Win It Games evening. Baby-sitting will be available at the school. The trivia evening was a great success. Please diarise this evening and book a table.
Have a good week.
Dee and Merle.

Starfish

EQ:  Going for Goals, Failures and Successes
IQ:  Proudly SA and People from other countries
Focus:  Fine Motor skills - Correct pencil grip
Number Concepts:  Number Recog 1 to 5, Touch and Count, Rote Count
The Starfish children thoroughly enjoyed being back at school after the holidays.  Some of them are finding it hard to get out of their warm beds in the mornings, but this should improve as we head towards Spring.  We continue to discuss "Proudly SA and People from other countries".  Please encourage your children to bring items or books to school about our theme.  It is so wonderful when they bring items and can tell the other children a little about the country it comes from.  We are also discussing "Going for Goals".  This week we chatted about what a baby can do, what an older toddler can do, what a 4/5 year old can do, what a school going child can do, and what an adult can do.  Please chat to your child about a goal they would like to set and write it down on a piece of paper.  Get them to bring it to school and we are going to place it in a special post box and hopefully by the end of term 3 with our help they will be able to achieve their goal.  It can be anything, sleeping in their own bed, riding their bicycle without trainers, skipping, manipulating the monkey bars, doing a cartwheel, being able to skip with a skipping rope etc. Our class goal for this term is going to be "tying their own shoelaces" Please encourage them as much as possible.  Please remember our dress up day this Friday 29 July.  They can dress up as "Proudly SA or People from other countries".  Please look at the past photo's up in the classroom for ideas.  No need to buy or hire an outfit.  NO SUPERHERO OUTFITS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please note Wed 3rd August is voting day, Monday 8/Tuesday 9th August is School/Public holiday.  Please Diarise Friday 2 September as our "Minute to Win It evening.  Please note this date has changed! Friday 23 September is Grandparents Day/Last day of term 3(Please note this is one week earlier than other schools)
We are concentrating on Fine Motor skills, especially Pencil grips.  Please correct them when drawing.  A good pencil grip will enable them to draw/write for longer without their fingers getting sore.  I know changing their pencil grip makes it feel strange when drawing but it will be beneficial in the end.  Encourage games to strengthen fine motor skills like threading, puzzles, pegging, Lego, pegging washing, spinning tops, pickup sticks.  Continue to play games involving numbers whether matching games, Uno, Snakes and Ladders, Rummikub etc
Please remember our "Baby-shower for Monica and Sylvester’s wife Minus" on Friday 29th July.  Please bring in items for their hampers like baby toiletries, nappies, clothes etc or a monetary donation.
Thank you
Have a Blessed Week
Colleen and Rudo
