The Missouri AD search continues to occupy the top spot. USA Today's Wolken with a flurry of tweets yesterday on the candidacy of Northern Illinois AD Frazier, who he says has been identified as a "prime candidate" for the quickly moving process. "To be clear on Mizzou: I don't know Frazier to be THE top candidate but they have expressed interest. There are still others in mix." Others, according to Wolken, include Interim AD Baker who he says is getting a long look. - link, link, link, link
The University of Missouri System is looking for a new Prez at the same time & one university leader likens the four-campus group to a confederacy, "The long-term vision is to turn the confederacy into a federacy then into one university, but that won’t happen in Missouri. Alumni, faculty, people and politicians won’t like it." Fifteen key officials within the system were interviewed on what they'd like to focus on within the search for a new leader, which include "the value of the university, promoting access and affordability, research, its education mission and MU Health Care." A 16-member committee will help to select the new Prez. - link
Latest Big 12 expansion download: Two from Memphis, starting with Prez Rudd's practice of periodically sending 365 packages to peers around the nation, via FedEx of course, to promote his university. "FedEx sponsored that effort. I can tell it's working, because I hear back from people all the time." Memphis Commercial Appeal's Calkins imagines FedEx envelopes have already landed on the desks of all the key Big 12 decision makers. Also, UM pulled in a record fundraising haul in its most recent fiscal year of $38.5M (link, link); Dallas Morning News columnist Carlton believes the top group of potential additions is made up of BYU, Houston, UConn, UCF & Cincinnati (link); Notable journalist  Blaudschun say he knows Big Ten Commish Delany well & if he were running the Big 12, Delany would center on breaking into new regions with FB-only additions of UConn & BYU to go along with full-adds of Cincinnati or Memphis & UCF (link); Baylor's SB Nation outlet says the Bears should oppose the groundswell for Houston, "There is no evidence Houston makes the Big 12 more money now" (link); Washington's SB Nation effort & columnist Landon believes now is the time for Pac-12 Commish Scott to be bold & try to add Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State & Kansas (link); If Colorado State were to jump from the Mountain West to the Big 12, would the former want to maintain a presence in Texas with an addition from the likes of Rice, UTSA, Texas State, UTEP or North Texas? (link); Courier-Journal lead Sullivan wrote late last week on Louisville's good fortune to have been passed over for Big 12 membership last time around & have landed in the ACC (link).
Watch: North Carolina AD Cunningham talks more about the new ACC Network, notes the benefits for those who support the Tar Heels & its Olympic sport portfolio as virtually all programs will now get more exposure, "The Carolina reach is worldwide." Continues on the faith he has in ESPN to effectively deliver the league's content over the next 20 years that will benefit all league members. Pointed to a longer process than many expected, but "waiting put us in a better position long term." A bit more. - link
Sun Belt FB media days will get rolling this morning at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Coastal Carolina is new to the fold, even though the Chants don't begin FB play until next year. Also new is the status of Idaho & New Mexico State, while both of their football-only membership agreements with the league ended in March, each has two seasons left before the split officially takes place. Speaking of new, Louisiana-Monroe HC Viator, Texas State HC Withers & Georgia Southern HC Summers will all face the media for the first time at the annual event as first-year head coaches at their respective institutions. Commish Benson will kick-off the activities at 9a followed by College Football Playoff CEO Kelly at 9:15a. - link
Heartbreaking news from Nebraska & Michigan State as current Cornhuskers FB student-athlete Foltz & former Spartan Sadler both passed away from a single-car crash on Saturday. Current LSU student-athlete Delahoussaye was also in the car & suffered minor injuries. The trio was on their way back from a kicking camp in Wisconsin. Nebraska HC Riley: "My main focus is just seeing [the players] as much as what I say to them. It's impossible for me to say anything to make [them] feel better. That is not the purpose of this. It is just to be together. I wanted to see them and just let them [know] that everybody understands their grief." - link

The upcoming Aer Lingus College Football Classic between Boston College & Georgia Tech in Dublin has an official charity as the Special Olympics Ireland will receive one euro for every ticket sold starting this past Saturday. Special Olympics Ambassador Jon Bon Jovi made the announcement & added, "I have been a supporter of Special Olympics for many years and I have seen the impact throughout the world in terms of driving its message of inclusion and tolerance." - link

Iowa FB student-athlete Ekakitie recounts on his Facebook page being confronted at gun-point by Iowa City police while playing the popular Pokemon Go game at a local park. The officers approached the Hawkeye senior because he matched the description of a bank robbery suspect and drew their guns after Ekakitie did not immediately respond to their demands because he had headphones on. Ekakitie was let go by the officers after being searched extensively, but says it's "extremely sad that our society has brainwashed us all to the point where we can’t feel safe being approached by the police officers in our respective communities. ... Not all police officers are out to get you, but at the same time, not all people who fit a criminal profile are criminals." - link
Vivature adds to its growing list of schools, inks a five-year deal with VCU expected to be worth $750K over the agreement's duration. Rams Deputy AD Palumbo says the agreement "will enhance the efficiency of our sports medicine operation and provide a new revenue stream that will allow us to provide the best possible care for our student-athletes." Count for Vivature now up to nearly 200 institutions. - link
Tennessee debuts AllVols.com, a new website for fans to manage season tickets and buy single-game ones, get parking passes and make donations. The new site, which also has a "Live Chat" feature during normal business hours, replaces UTTix.com - link
Silver Chalice EVP of Biz Dev Golden chatted with Cynopsis Sports on the new Campus Insiders deal with Twitter. "Mobile audience growth continues to explode at a rapid pace. Just looking at our Campus Insiders audience for the first half of 2016 compared to 2015, mobile traffic made up 32% of total audience in 2015 compared to 75% in 2016. Then, if you break down where the mobile audience is coming from, over 60% in 2016 is coming from social media." Golden noted a long term solid relationships with Twitter & "framing up the business parameters" to get more content through its streaming opportunity. No impact at the moment from the new ACC Digital Network addition. - link
Harvard Business Review's Schwarz: "Getting Teams with Different Subcultures to Collaborate." There are three steps in blending skills to cross cultural barriers: 1. Understand what team culture is and how it works ("distinguish between a team's espoused culture and the one it operates from"); 2. Identify your team's and other teams' cultures ("operate from the assumption that differences are opportunities for learning"); 3. Jointly design a solution for the different and conflicting values and assumptions ("teams can compromise when other options don't work"). - link
Technology Today presented by Paciolan, Now Spectra, Ticketing & Fan Engagement
Interesting read from Yahoo Finance contributor Horrow on the addition of college sports content to Twitter's streaming efforts. Believes there's an advantage of being first for the likes of the Mountain West & Patriot League. "So is there business value that can be realized, or is it just about the hype? Many people seem to think that the aggregation opportunities as well as the potential audience, especially for college sports, is worth the shot." ROI Sports Prez & Columbia professor Katz expects to see even deeper integration, maybe down into the DII & DIII ranks, as he calls the marriage "organic and mutually beneficial." - link

Beer at ballgames: Not at Illinois right now, according to AD Whitman, "It's something that's starting to take hold nationwide, you're starting to see more and more schools looking at that as an opportunity to supplement some revenue and I think enhance, in some peoples perspective the fan experience. It's not something that we're looking at presently. I think it's an issue that's out there, I'm aware it's out there but it's not something that has risen to the top of the list right now." - link
Connecticut AD Benedict has decided to hold off from adding a ticket surcharge for the upcoming football and basketball seasons. In an effort to help fund the $46M construction of new soccer, baseball and softball stadiums, the Board of Trustees approved the ticket surcharge back in January, which ranged from $1 to $5. However, Benedict wants to give supporters at least six months' notice before a surcharge is enacted, but expects the measure will go into effect next season. - link
Michigan State MBB will reportedly take on Penn State at the historic Palestra in Philadelphia on January 7. Neither school has confirmed the report, as the match-up was originally scheduled as a Penn State home game and will be the only tip between the two during the Big Ten regular season. Spartans HC Izzo previously noted his desire to play a game in the venerable facility. - link
Elsewhere around Higher Ed: Former Ohio State FB HC & current Youngstown State Prez Tressel continues to garner high praise for his fundraising efforts (link); Hofstra will host the first U.S. Presidential debate on September 26 after Wright State ended up declining due to safety concerns (link); Q&A with Baylor Interim Prez Garland & Regent Chair Murff on a number of pressing topics for the Waco institution (link); Florida Gulf Coast has moved up its selection of a new Prez from next March to this December (link); Arizona's $1.15B campaign is being negatively impacted by developments around Prez Hart as some supporters would like to "see her gone" as soon as possible (link).
Australian Olympic Committee chef de mission Chiller has confirmed Australian athletes will not be moving into the athletes' village this weekend for the upcoming Rio Summer Olympics as previously scheduled because the lodging arrangements are "unliveable" due to plumbing and electrical concerns. Chiller: "Problems include blocked toilets, leaking pipes, exposed wiring, darkened stairwells where no lighting has been installed and dirty floors in need of a massive clean. In operations areas water has come through the ceiling resulting in large puddles on the floor around cabling and wiring." Rio Mayor Paes responded: "I almost feel like putting a kangaroo in front of their building to make them feel at home." Contingents from Great Britain and New Zealand are also reportedly experiencing similar problems. - link
In case you didn't catch the new 'Athletic Director U.' entry sent last night, I wrote on the cable bundle, Stratechery lead Ben Thompson's Aggregation Theory & how ESPN is well positioned to monetize viewers on any medium depending on where the market goes. And to be clear, if anyone knows exactly where the market is going, they should probably play the lottery tonight. The piece also weaved in notes from the new ACC Network deal, warnings of being too aggressive extrapolating out cord-cutting numbers & the intertwining of big brand advertisers who spend huge money on TV & could end up helping to destroy the entire traditional TV ecosystem. - link
1.Question sponsored by Turnkey Search
Raleigh-based sports radio host & journalist, Joe Ovies, has been analyzing the ACC's linear & digital future for quite some time & in the first of two 1.Qs covers what questions around the deal he's most interested to learn more about. Ovies also touches on his key interview with Wasserman's Dean Jordan, his personal challenges cutting the cord & the "non-answer" on if ESPNU or ESPNews will flip to an ACC Network in 2019.
