Welcome to the Tarner Community Project newsletter for August 2016. This is edition 3, with news of what's been going on at the Project and information about exciting developments and upcoming events.
Farewell!
We are sadly saying goodbye to the following children: Lola Cajaville, Callum Hickman, Andre Davies, Nina Castillo, Emmanuel Ajala, Seamus Hugman, Mia Childs and Lola Bruno-Crisp. We will miss you all and it has been a delight having you here. We wish you a happy transition to your next exciting adventure. Come back and see us some time and tell us all about how you're getting on.

Tarner Festival a Summer Success!
The Tarner Festival, which took place on 17 July, was a huge success and we aim to make this an annul celebration with other Tarner based community projects. The sun shone and lots of families from the community came to enjoy the afternoon. There was an animal school inside the playbase, where children could enjoy petting rabbits, guinea pigs and even giant snails. The children enjoyed all kinds of activities, too, from painting pebbles and badge making, to a bouncy castle and balloon typhoon. We had bands performing and a fantastic raffle with over 20 brilliant gifts donated by local businesses, including Lagoon Watersports, the Sealife Centre and Paradise Park.

Art in the Park
The brilliant full-scale mural now in the park was finished live at the Tarner Festival. Creative duo Art + Believe, who lead the project, were on site to help a group of about 20 young people complete the colourful mural using spray-painted designs and striking images. These young people had already spent four afternoons working on the mural together, pooling ideas and learning how to stencil, paint and spray designs. The mural was created on wooden hoardings stretching down from the main entrance and will remain in the park for the rest of the summer. Do have a look next time you're here; it's really eye-catching and a great achievement for all the young people who worked so hard on it.

Thanks to our Tarner Festival Sponsors
Several local businesses kindly donated money to help the mural art project happen. Their sponsorship went towards materials, paints and equipment. Our thanks to Brandwatch, The Unit and Barrie Alderton Estate Agents for their generous donations, which helped make this art project a beautiful success.

Holiday Play Scheme
The summer Holiday Play Scheme is now fully booked and has proved more popular than ever! Please book as soon as possible for our next Holiday Play Scheme, which runs 24-28 October 2016.

After School Club
We are also now taking bookings for the After School Club and again, to avoid disappointment, we strongly advise booking soon. The deadline for submitting After School Club registration forms has now been extended until Friday 29 July 2016. We will not be able to guarantee a place for your child after this date.

Tarner Youth Project
Our Monday evening youth club for 8-19 year olds, based at The Phoenix Centre from 4-7pm, is closed for the summer, but we do have a few spaces left for our summer activities that run Mondays 3-6pm. To find out about these, please call Jon on 07952 243183. Albion coached football will continue to run Thursday 6.30-8pm, too. Just pitch up and join in!

Very Important  Outstanding Fees
It is vital that all outstanding fees are paid as soon as possible. We will not be able to secure your child's place at After School Club or offer a place at a Holiday Play Scheme if you have fees still outstanding. Please note that even if you are no longer using the Project, we still need you to pay any outstanding fees as soon as possible.

Shout Out for Volunteers
We really need volunteers at the moment, especially for youth projects and clubs and, from the autumn, for the community allotment. Please contact Emma on 01273 679940 for a chat if you are interested.
