After escaping apartheid-era South Africa Maxine made her way overland, mostly in the boot or foot well of a car. She travelled through Botswana and Tanzania, then eventually with help from friends got a flight to the UK.
Fast forward 50 years, having arrived in Britain in 1963 Maxine worked with The Ray Ellington Band and met all the great names of jazz both here and in the United States.
A recent meeting with Tim Richardson from The Oxford Jazz Trio has led to Maxine performing again.
Come and hear a women with a captivating voice and incredible life story, performing with a superb band - Martin Pickett on piano, Steve Smith on bass and Tim Richardson on the drums.
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 4th August!
