NEW! Monarch Tagging Open To All Ages
Gail Barels, Linn County Conservation Education Specialist, will provide tags and nets for collecting monarchs to tag and release. Two years of poor reproduction of monarchs in the United states produced the lowest ever recorded wintering population of monarch butterflies in Mexico during the winters of 2013 and 2014. This lead to major concerns across the country that the monarch populations were in critical danger. Join us to learn about current concerns about migration and what is being done to provide for monarchs in their breeding and wintering areas. You can help tag and release monarchs as part of a citizen science program through the University of Kansas’ Monarch Watch program. Nets and tags will be provided.
