Protect Against Ransomware and Other Viruses

Hackers have recently updated their viruses with ransomware capabilities. Ransomware is a virus that encrypts files (pictures, music, documents, etc) on your computer and once completed, a demand for payment appears. Recently, it has been discovered that new malware is posing as a Firefox browser update that pops up when certain websites are visited. In order to spot these fake updates go to the "Help" menu on Firefox and then the "About Firefox" option to check if the software is up to date.

Once Ransomware and viruses attack your computer it can become difficult to recover your infected. Here are some tips to prevent the attacks in the first place:
  1. Back up your data daily with our offsite backup solution. Even if your backup files are on network shares or external hard drives they are susceptible to hacking.
  2. Be aware of malware that are disguised as regular ads. In order to prevent this install ad blockers.
  3. Keep third party plug-ins such as Java and Flash up to date. When looking to update software go directly to the site.
  4. Be cautious of any company that wants to remote into your computer. Call us if you are unsure.
  5. If your system becomes infected disconnect immediately and Call Us!
