The Knowledge Synthesis and Comparative Program and Policy Analysis funding applications have been submitted to CIHR. BRIC NS members are leading one Knowledge Synthesis project and are involved in four others in different roles. One Comparative Program and Policy Analysis project is being led from Nova Scotia and BRIC NS members are co-applicants on two others.

Get ready for the next round
Both the Knowledge Synthesis and the Comparative Program and Policy Analysis grant competitions will be held again in 2017. In addition, the competition for multi-year grants, which are meant to support larger cross-jurisdictional projects, will also be held in 2017 (launch in Winter 2017 and deadline in October). These competitions will have many of the same requirements as the most recent ones: knowledge user and patient co-applicants, partners from at least one other provincial network and matching funds.

Research project looking for partners Help Wanted: Self-guided interventions for migraine!
Drs. Cathy MacLean and Anna Huguet, along with a multidisciplinary research team, have developed two Internet-based self-guided cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) interventions for adolescents and adults with migraines. These interventions have the potential to empower individuals to better manage their headaches by providing them with educational information and teaching them coping skills. These interventions can help them reduce the frequency and severity of their migraines, and reduce the negative impact their migraines have on their lives, all while requiring very little support from health care professionals. With the goal of improving access for patients to evidence-based CBT in the general community and along the continuum of care, the team is poised to launch a full-scale Randomized Controlled Trial to test the effectiveness of these interventions. The team invites all physicians to consider recommending these interventions to their patients who may be eligible to take part in this trial.

Congratulations to BRIC NS Research Lead and Nominated Principal Applicant Dr. Fred Burge, the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Charles and Mrs. Jean Gass Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Burge has received this award in recognition of his immense contribution to primary care research and dedication to life long learning. His passion for providing dignified palliative care to his patients is the foundation upon which he has built his career.
Dr. Burge is committed to improving the quality of primary care, including chronic disease management, through the application of research evidence in this setting and developing tools and strategies to improve that care. He is also dedicated to research and evaluation of new models of primary care delivery. This commitment is reflected in his work with BRIC NS.

Travel grant to attend KT Canada Practicing Knowledge Translation Course

KT Canada is offering its Practicing Knowledge Translation (PKT) course, geared towards health professionals implementing changes and focused on how to apply KT to real-world implementation projects.
The course structure includes a 3-day in person workshop (Toronto, Ontario; Oct 17 - 19, 2016), six online webinars (Nov 2016 - Jan 2017), and coaching support (until Mar 2017).
The Maritime SPOR SUPPORT Unit is offering offering three free registrations (priced at $2,450 each) for members of the MSSU community - i.e. individuals from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island who are engaged in patient-oriented research as either knowledge producers or knowledge users.
