Zimkids Newsletter July 2016

Summer Fundraising Success :)

We mentioned two summer events in our last newsletter - both of which were roaring successes. Congratulations to six-year-old Ruby who managed to raise over £500 from her Yard Sale and Louise, Carol and Kelly (pictured) who raised a magnificent £1,000 from The Great Morden Bake Off.

Drew and Ruth Newton also did their best 'Del-boy' impressions last weekend and held a Car Boot Sale for us raising over £80. What a month!

More photos of all of these events can be viewed on our Flickr page.

And that's not all...

Inspired by recent goings-on in Zimbabwe in the UK press, this weekend 18 swimming fanatics, including their swim instructor 'Zimbabwean-born' Tracey Baumann, are diving in to Lake Windermere to take on a gruelling challenge to raise some more vital funds. You can encourage them here should you wish to, http://www.everyclick.com/swimsolutions, every penny counts.

These particular donations are going towards developing our 'Township Teaching' programme. We currently have 4 Township teachers whom we have trained and employed to work for us in the townships they live in.

These ‘Township teachers’ are people we have recognised in each of the communities we work in that have some teaching skills already but more importantly are people that are desperate to help make a lasting difference in their own communities.

They teach the children basic Maths and Literacy after school every afternoon to supplement their education in mainstream school. Some of this is done simply under trees, some under gazebos and some in purpose-built classrooms.

This model is working so well that we want to expand, train more teachers and build more classrooms to ensure more of our kids have the opportunity for extra tuition and thus stand a chance of passing their exams.

Zimkids 'Annual' Quiz Night
We're excited to say we've set a date for another exciting Quiz night in South West London - Friday 11th November. Save the date in your diaries now and we'll send more details soon! We'll be building on the success of last year and have already got some exciting auction prizes lined up :)

On the hunt for Shamwaris!

Our Shamwaris, as you know, are the backbone of the charity and we are very grateful for every one of you. Your regular gifts enable us to not only support our exiting families but also to take on new families in desperate need and ensure we can support them through the highs and lows of life for the long-term.

Do you know anyone that would be keen to become a Shamwari?

We have joined up with the wonderful 'BT MyDonate' so people can now give both one-off and regular gifts online - it couldn't be simpler. All they have to do is click on the banner below, follow the simple instructions and in a few minutes they'll be part of the Zimkids family. Please do forward on to anyone you think would like to sign up!

Thanks for reading, we look forward to updating you again next month.

Thank you,

The Zimkids UK team
