Welcome to the Rutgers Family!

The New Student Orientation and Family Programs staff is pleased to welcome you and your student to Rutgers University-New Brunswick! This email contains important information to help you prepare for our Parent & Family orientation program on July 297, 2016.

Please take a moment to fill out our brief pre-orientation survey.

Location, Directions and Parking

The Livingston Student Center is located at:
84 Joyce Kilmer Ave
Piscataway, NJ 08854

Please make sure that your GPS takes you to PISCATAWAY and not New Brunswick (Google Maps defaults to New Brunswick, so make sure to double-check).

Parking is available in the Yellow Lot; before attending orientation you will need to print out a parking pass to put on your dashboard. That pass, along with additional help regarding location and directions can be found here

If you are traveling from a distance and would like to arrive the night before, we have discounted hotel rated close to campus that you can view by clicking here.

Check In

Check-in for the Parent and Family Orientation experience begins at 4:15PM at the Kilmer Library.  Please print your purchased tickets or have them readily available on your phone for scanning upon arrival.  Prompt arrival is appreciated.

If your plans have changed and you cannot attend this session, please contact our office as soon as possible.  We will be happy to transfer your registration to any other available Parent and Family Orientation program date.

We are encouraging parents and students to bring a canned good to Orientation check-in for our Rutgers Against Hunger (RAH) initiative.

Schedule

You may access the schedule for the day using this link.  This website has been optimized for mobile phones, so be sure to bookmark this page so you can reference the schedule once on campus.  Paper schedules will also be available for you at check in.

Throughout the day, you will be guided by our Senior Orientation Leaders, and you will hear from representatives from the university who are available to answer any questions you may have. There will be a resource fair and panel presentations from important departments.  Hors d'oeuvres and Rutgers imprinted giveaways are included in your registration.  The program ends at approximately 9:00PM.

Reminders About Your Student's Experience

Here are some reminders for when your student attends their orientation session:

Immunization Compliance Your student can also bring their completed immunization forms; staff members from Rutgers Student Health Services will be available during the resource fair to answer questions about the University's immunization requirements and accept immunization forms.

Participation Form: Please note, for students under the age of 18, a parental consent/participation form can be found here. This needs to be signed and brought to orientation.

Required Reading: Your student was instructed to read an excerpt from the book What Happens on Campus Stays on YouTube.  Please show your support as a parent/family member by reminding your student to complete this assignments before coming to orientation next week.

Student Expectations: New Student Orientation is an alcohol and drug free experience. Students found in possession or under the influence of alcohol or other drugs during an orientation program could be sent home immediately and possibly face sanctions as outlined in the
Rutgers University Code of Student Conduct. If a student violates the Code of Student Conduct during the Orientation experience, there will be immediate parental notification, sanctions and possible removal from the program.
