Christians I Know are Hypocrites
You don’t have to be a street evangelist sharing with hundreds of people every day to have heard this objection to Christianity, “Well, the reason I don’t want to become a Christian is that most Christians that I know are hypocrites.” There it is, probably the most overused and unproven excuse on the market today. Most of us have heard this excuse in one form or another if we have spent any time inviting someone to follow Christ. So why is that the case? Well, perhaps it is a reputation that is deserved. Let’s face it, we have to own part of this problem because too many Christians say they believe one way, and their actions show a different belief system. “Yes, I believe in what the Bible has to say, just ask my live-in boyfriend.” “Oh, I know we are supposed to love and forgive one another, but you don’t understand what this person did to me!” The world sees us saying one thing, but our actions tell a different story. Seeing hypocrisy in the church may be the greatest reason people do not come to faith in Christ. This week we are going to deal with the objection that all Christians are hypocrites. Maybe you know someone who has allowed an inconsistent witness from another Christian to hinder their relationship with God, why not invite them to join you this week as we tackle this tough topic with what Jesus had to say about the matter.
