A New Beginning for Historic Landmark West Laurel Hill
With PA Law Change Brings a New Name

Bala Cynwyd PA (July 2016)- Just beyond the city limits of Philadelphia sits 187 beautiful acres of tranquility, home to thousands of local Philadelphians. Located beside the Schuylkill River, West Laurel Hill Cemetery has been designated a national historic landmark. This summer, the funeral home, formerly known as Bringhurst, will be known as West Laurel Hill Funeral Home.

West Laurel Hill Cemetery was founded in 1869 and has served the Philadelphia region as a premier cemetery and crematory. In 1996, West Laurel Hill acquired Bringhurst Funeral Home (1822) and built the funeral home on our grounds. In 2005, to help better serve the Roxborough community, West Laurel Hill purchased Turner Funeral Home circa 1890. Together, they have proudly served families for almost two centuries. Joining these three branches of their company under one name will help their families and the community easily recognize that they are one company dedicated to serving all.

The approval for the name change is attributed to a Third Circuit Federal Court ruling in Heffner v. Murphy (No. 08-cv-990), May 8, 2012 which, among other provisions, allows the use of fictitious names for funeral homes in Pennsylvania.  Previously, funerals homes were named after the Funeral Director who owned the funeral home.

When asked about the new name, Sales and Marketing Director Deborah Cassidy says,

“Re-branding ourselves as West Laurel Hill Cemetery and Funeral Home will strengthen the community’s understanding we are one company with one singular purpose -  to serve families by providing them with one place to honor their loved one and help carve out their place in history.”

In the next few months, and spanning into 2017, you will see the new image prominently displayed on their signage, the new website, and their information brochures. Plans for renovations to the funeral home will also begin later this year. West Laurel Hill continues to serve families with the same dedicated commitment that they have come to rely on for almost two centuries.

Press are invited to tour the historical grounds and interview Deborah Cassidy.  For tours and interview requests please email Brandon@PhillyPRGirl.com.  For more information about West Laurel Hill, you can follow them on their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram or visit www.westlaurelhill.com.
