Whose Art Scene is it Anyway?
arts writing, making, curating, making and collecting

Please join Waterstone Gallery for an informal discussion with arts writer Bob Hicks, and artists Shu-Ju Wang and Christy Wyckoff on Wednesday, July 27th at 6:30 PM. They will share their experiences in arts writing, making, and curating. They will also discuss how the internet has affected these roles, and why collectors and patrons should be interested in projects where artists and writers experiment with other roles.

Artists and writers have always been Do-It-Yourself type people. Historically, they have published their own literary journals and manifestos, and filled them with the latest ideas in visual art and literature before they were readily accepted in the mainstream population. These artists and writers surrounded themselves with aesthetically like-minded individuals, forming crucibles of creativity that gave rise to movements like Cubism, der Blaue Reiter, and Abstract Expressionism.
