PT Tip of the Month

Arthritis is the word . . . and it’s spreading

There is a reason that an arthritis diagnosis is becoming more frequent. Actually there are several reasons — Some you can do something about and some you can’t. And when I say YOU, I mean YOU the therapist.

For starters, Docs need to give a diagnosis in order to get reimbursed and since arthritis is a normal part of aging, it seems only natural that arthritis is a diagnosis that would be accurate. Therefore it’s fast, easy and reimbursable to say, ”It sounds like you have arthritis.”  And since it  is easier to give a diagnosis than to put your hands on the patient and figure out what’s really the matter, SHAZAM you’ve got arthritis!

Questions from the Mail Room

Mail-Room
Q:  Hi Tom, Wanted to thank you again for a great course this weekend.  I have to confess that my back feels better than it has felt for months so you made me a believer!  I meant to ask you on Sunday but completely forgot in my joy at having no pain (darn endorphins made me brain dead), do you ever show patients any self-mobilization techniques?
Carrie, PT

A: Carrie, First of all, that is awesome that your pain is significantly reduced.
Nice to get the feedback.  Secondly, I tend to teach self stabilization not self mobilization. If you do your job correctly, the patient should not need to be mobilized. They will be back to 100% level and symmetrical. Thanks for the question and hope to see you at another course in the future.

Prescription Painkillers May Worsen And Lengthen Chronic Pain

News from a research team studying the effects of opioids may help explain the explosion in prescription painkiller addictions of the last several years. A University of Colorado-Boulder study has found that opioid use increases chronic pain in rats. If the same result holds true in humans, it would mean that prescribed opioids aren’t only viciously addictive, they also worsen the very condition they’re prescribed to treat.

Solutions for Chronic Pain

neurotransmittersA staggering 100 million people in the USA suffer with chronic pain, a higher number than those diagnosed with cancer, diabetes and heart disease.  Chronic pain patients suffer because they  feel like they are not believed by medical professionals especially when many test results are negative, the medications don’t make a significant difference and their doctors don’t know what else to do.

Our Seminars

Thomas K. Ockler, PT
Muscle Energy Technique is one of the most effective and valuable manual techniques for the identification and correction of somatic asymmetry and hypomobility. These techniques can be used immediately to find and correct the causes of all types of pain. These are not cover up procedures, but rather techniques that cure the problem with dramatic results.

Unlike manipulative techniques, MET works via evidenced-based neuro-physiology using the muscle spindles to release tight muscles and decrease tone and excitability, thus restoring the bones and joints to normal mobility and returning them to symmetrical, smooth function.

The two-day courses involve a mix of theory, demonstration and hands-on practice. Actual evaluation and treatments will be performed by each participant using the methods learned. Plenty of time is allotted for hands on practice as well as questions and discussion.

Due to the hands-on nature of these courses, class size is limited to assure a very high quality educational experience. Attend one of our seminars and don't miss this magnificent educational opportunity!

What Are Students Saying about the MET Courses?

"I feel 90% more competent in the pelvis and am on the right track to the sacrum. This was explained so well and the labs were absolutley integral to understanding. Thank you for making this so comfortable to understand."

FAQ's Regarding the Courses

Host an MET Course

Hosting an MET course of your very own can be a big advantage in several ways and it’s easier than you think. With continuing education requirements now for most states, the cost of sending a single participant to a course can cost upwards of $1,200.00 for a weekend class. That can eat up your CEU money in no time flat.
