WHAT'S UP

The Crosscut Quilt-Along
TODAY! Each day this week I'll post a prompt on Instagram for one step in the process. Check out DAY ONE's post if you want to join in!

WORTH A READ

ROUND-UP

I've returned to Katie/Sew Katie Did's Heart Strings Quilt again and again, it's just so striking! Lucky us, she's posted a tutorial using four unique string blocks. [sewkatiedid]
Just a little tweak to a familiar design gave Susan/Canadian Abroad's Offset Plus a fresh new look! [canadianabroad]
Triad from M-R/Quilt Matters, wowed me from the first glance. Check out her post for amazing close-ups! [quiltmatters]
Gotta love a Log Cabin, and when it comes to Allison/
[quiltdesignatelier]'s Modern Solid Log Cabin, I really, really do!
There's so much to love about the improv fan quilt from Ara Jane/you know what i love? and her #dgslovecircle. The use of value in Ara Jane's block placement, as well as those contrasting bits of color just make it for me. [arajane]

And then there's Raw I by
Jayne/Twiggy and Opal. Can I just say I was thrilled to see the 'I' after the name of this 18" x 20" quilt? Because there's detail after detail to examine in version one, and I can't wait to see the next. It all began when Jayne decided to weave her fabric trimmings!
Serious! [twiggyandopal]

TUTORIALS & SUCH

Back in Issue 20, string quilts were featured, and I shared half a dozen tutorials. When I saw Katie's Heart Strings Quilt, it got me thinking of strings again, and along the way I discovered a couple more resources I couldn't resist sharing.

First, a BOM by Wisconsin Fritz provided not only a String Scraps tutorial, but an extensive Cutting & Yardage chart, and an amazing array of layout options.

And then I happened upon a free Liberated String Medallion tutorial by Gwen Marston on AQS OnPoint. Oh yeah.

OFF TOPIC

Oh goodness! When I saw Nicole/Mama Love Quilts' recent post on How to Make a Mini Log Cabin Quilt Block, I loved the tiny 3" log cabin block she'd made with its scant 1/4" logs. But then! She went and made one into a pincushion, and isn't it the cutest?! I'd keep an eye on her, as I heard a rumor another tutorial might be in the works... Not that I could wait!

P.S. Did you miss my 6 Tips for Making Zipper Pouches Easier and Neater? I think my favorite is #4. Hmm. Or #5.
