Dr. Sheikh Launches New Demonstration of GFRPs
Dr. Shamim Sheikh at University of Toronto and Dr. Umesh Sharma at IIT Roorkee are launching a new demonstration of their innovative Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) infrastructure material.
The demonstration will take place at a reverse osmosis plant in Gujarat, India and will focus on rehabilitating and extending the life of corroded columns, and monitoring the results over time.

Dr. Serpe's Sensor Research Featured in CBC
Dr. Michael Serpe, Associate Scientific Director and Theme Lead for Integrated Water Management at IC-IMPACTS was recently featured in CBC.
Dr. Serpe is currently working on an innovative water sensor that can detect harmful pathogens that can provide results in as little as 5 minutes.
His research team plans to travel to Poshina, India to field test the technology and test for E. coli.

Research Synergy Collaboration Call
The Research Synergy Collaboration Call is accepting proposals from IC-IMPACTS researchers. Researchers that combine outcomes of at least two previously funded research projects can receive up to $100,000 in funding.
All applications will be due September 5, 2016.

Dr. Vecchio Develops Software to Monitor Structures
Dr. Vecchio and his research team are developing innovative digital tools for better infrastructure assessment.
Their program Cyrus combines the analysis of several popular tools into one package to improve the overall efficiency and accuracy of the structural analysis. The new software can significantly improve asset management of critical structures on a national level.

Dr. Aitchison Awarded Distinguished Lecturer Award
Dr. Stewart Aitchison, Associate Scientific Director and Theme Lead for Public Health at IC-IMPACTS was awarded an IEEE Photonics Society Distinguished Lecturer Award for 2016-2017.
The award honours excellent speakers who have made technical, industrial, or entrepreneurial contributions of high quality to the field of lasers and electro-optics.
