Last week, we announced the 2016 edition of Read Write Inc. Phonics.

We're so pleased with all the responses. Reading Leaders have been particularly enthusiastic about the new handbooks and the grammar and vocabulary updates.

Regional Meetings

Reading leaders from trained schools - we have special free events for you. We will demonstrate core developments and help you make the most of our new cutting edge resources.

You'll also be able to find out more about MyBookBlog: a fabulous website that gets children reading well-loved 'real' books.

Whole-school Update Training

We are taking bookings for our new one-day update training.

The trainer will:

Demonstrate all updated activities from the new edition
Ensure staff have opportunities to practise
Guide staff through our new day-by-day lesson plans.

We will be filming Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons using our new edition in the Autumn Term. These films will be available on the Portal for masterclasses and staff meetings from October.

Parent Tutorial: Storybook Activities - Speed Words

In this Parent Tutorial, we rejoin Malaika and her mum Tanya. Malaika is practising reading Speed Words from one of our green storybooks, The Spell. She can now read words accurately and at speed too.

My Blog: Stop with silence

Partner talk is impossible if you can’t get children to stop quickly.

It’s the first thing that you have to get right. Using the silent stop signal – across the whole school – is the first step in promoting a culture where children can think out loud, clarify their ideas, reason and argue.

After the huge effort you’ve put into teaching every child to read, I do hope the SATs go well next week. The teamwork, support to teachers, one-to-one tuition for the weaker readers and close tracking of pupils has been worth it. Secondary school teachers are telling us that the number of poor readers is reducing every year. More opportunities for more children.
