Vermont's 46th annual Green-Up Day is May 7!
Every year, more than 21,000 volunteers pick up over 200 tons of trash and 5,000 tires along some 13,000 Vermont roadways.
Here's how to clean up at the
Waterbury Reservoir this year
|
|
|
- Green-Up Day trash bags are available now at the Waterbury Municipal Complex and Sunflower Natural Market on Route 100 in Waterbury Center.
- Volunteer sign-up at http://tinyurl.com/WaterburyGreenUp2016
- Show up at your favorite Reservoir spot on Saturday, May 7.
- Haul out whatever you collect.
- Drop off trash, metal recycling, and tires can be dropped at the Town Garage at 1707 Guptil Road in Waterbury Center from 8-4 on Saturday.
- If you find really big stuff (like furniture), contact the Waterbury Green-Up Coordinator at lscagliotti@comcast.net or call 802-373-5878.
- Clean-up at both Waterbury Center and Little River State Parks is welcome! Remember that the Parks are not yet open, so you'll need to walk in. Also, the bathrooms are unavailable.
- Safety First! Green Up Day Volunteers should not pick up or touch needles or other hazardous waste.
- Remember to Be Tick Smart, too.

New this year...
- A VT State Parks truck will pick up Green-Up Bags at the Cotton Brook access area's main parking lot. This is convenient for trash that's collected along the logging road trails, boat access, and in the parking areas.
- Clean up of the shorelines by boat. Got space in your canoe? Pack it full! Contact waterburyres@gmail.com or 802-760-7286 to volunteer your a motorboat as a 'barge'.
- On Green-Up Day only, trash collected along the Reservoir shoreline may be left at the Little River State Park boat launch (away from the shoreline).

Waterbury Dam boat access area is located on Little River Road Road (off VT Route 2) on the way to Little River State Park.
The nearby snowmobile parking areas and roadway may also need attention.

Little River State Park is located on Reservoir Road (off VT Route 2). Remember that the park is not open, so you'll need to walk in, and there are no restrooms available.

|
|
Blush Hill Road Boat Access, with its surrounding trails, is located at the end of Blush Hill. From Route 100 in Waterbury, turn up the hill and past the Best Western Hotel and continue to the very end.

|
|
Elephant Rock is a popular picnic area accessible on foot. Watch for the major power lines and unmarked trail on Gregg Hill Road (off VT Route 100) in Waterbury Center.

|
Cotton Brook Boat Access is located on the northern tip of the Reservoir, off Nebraska Valley Road near the Stowe village of Moscow.
|
|
|
Cotton Brook Logging Road is a popular hiking, bicycling, snowmobiling and cross-country ski trail also located at the northern tip of the Reservoir, above the canoe access.
|

|
|
Waterbury Center State Park day use area is located on Reservoir Road (off VT Route 100) in Waterbury Center. Remember that the park is not open, so you'll need to walk in, and there are no restrooms available.

The Waterbury Reservoir is recognized as a unique resource and an important conservation and economic asset for the people of the state of Vermont.

We believe it is essential to:
• Strengthen relationships with stakeholders including neighbors, businesses, governments and other organizations and extend our role as convener and supporter;
• Build a community of water- and land-based Reservoir users; and
• Support stewardship and conservation of the natural world on and around the Reservoir.
We believe it is important to:
• Provide access, and promote responsible recreation as a means to engage people directly and pass on timeless values;
• Honor the history of the communities that existed on the Reservoir and their contribution to the area;
• Collaborate with other organizations in accomplishing shared goals; and
• Use outdoor recreation as a vehicle to help youth engage with and learn about the natural world.
