Art + Mentoring = Pride

Art + Mentoring = Pride!

Our Spring Art Show shows what mentoring can do.

There was so much to love about the opening reception for our Little Artist BIG ARTIST art show. We loved seeing the Little Artists hugging their Big Artists. We loved the kids’ smiles when they saw their work displayed. We loved the proud families hugging their kids. We loved the music and, of course, the art. Most of all we loved the spirit of community in celebrating the creativity of children. What a wonderful evening!

For more wonderfulness, check out our Facebook page, where we’re posting photos of the reception, the artists, and the art this week.

We’re giving thanks

Celebrating our Little Artists was also a chance to appreciate the people who make Little Artist BIG ARTIST happen. A huge thank you to:

Fiesta Mart
Debbie Kizer of Imagine Art and ReNEW East
Jennifer Ramos, Program Coordinator & Photographer
The Little Artist BIG ARTIST staff
The Chula League board
Blanca Carrizales, Spanish translator and parent liaison
Brandy Davis of Pigsey Art, journal donation
Art teachers: Ms. Healey at Blackshear, Ms. Gleason at Allison, Ms. Vieau at Oak Springs, and Ms. Leaman at Maplewood
Music teachers and performers: Mr Valdez and the Blackshear Violin Orchestra; Mr. Krouse and the Maplewood Ukulele Orchestra; and Ms. Young and the Allison Dragon Choir.

We are so grateful to the Big Artists who shared their skills and professional experience and — most importantly — gave their time and attention.

Finally, thank you to the Little Artists for their creativity, curiosity and perseverance. They always remind us that kids can do great things, especially when a caring adult says, “I believe in you.”

Thank you all for helping to foster the next generation of Austin artists!
