Hear this

Polygraph is jumping in with highly interactive pieces that include data, charts, sound and plenty of clicking and exploring. Their evolution of popular hip-hop music is a must-listen and scroll. They also more recently released a similar piece of chart toppers over the years, which they pegged as the collective change in musical taste. The newish site is taking advantage of the interactive/multimedia space in the best way. And their website URL is polygraph.cool -- so they win.

Listen to that

  • Not to be overshadowed by a new media upstart, the New York Times similarly put out a top 25 musical interactive. Instead of charts, the project scrolls the viewer down through songs that are influential. While songs autoplay as you scroll along comes an article, if reading is more your thing than listening.
  • This one is not so sonic, but is at the same time. Stay with me: In a map of 12 cities (including SF!) you can click on any street and see a breakdown of the type of sounds typically heard. I clicked on my street and it's 34 percent nature sounds...CityLab dug into the team that built the maps and all the research and methodology behind it.
  • This is more of a traditional "web package" with a long feature piece about Britney Spears divided into different sections. Embedded within the story are her music video hits from YouTube.
