New London Ambulance Receives $3,500 Grant
New London-Spicer Area Fund Issues Grant
New London, Minn. – The Willmar Area Community Foundation announces that its New London-Spicer Area Fund issued a grant to the New London Ambulance in the amount of $3,500. This grant will be used to purchase an Image Trend Reporting System to increase efficiency and improve quality of emergency care in northern Kandiyohi County.

Prior to the grant, the New London Ambulance squad recorded emergency patient care and administered billing manually. This manual recording system involved writing insurance billing codes and patient care notes by hand, taking between eight and ten hours of administrative time per patient. With the new Image Trend Reporting System, this time frame will be reduced to approximately one hour per patient.

Along with improved speed and accuracy comes improved patient care as well. With the new system, patients’ vital sign measurements will be transmitted to the destination hospital while the patient is en route. This allows the hospital to be more prepared to transition the patient out of the ambulance crew’s care and efficiently into the hospital staff’s care. A training officer on the ambulance crew will also be able to review records from the new system to identify areas for training and improvement.

According to Clark Vollan, Chair of the New London-Spicer Area Fund, “This system not only improves accuracy and speed of patient records, it has the potential to literally save lives.” Paul Peterson, New London Ambulance’s training officer, agrees. Peterson states “This grant will allow us to focus even more on patient care during what is oftentimes the most critical point of contact in emergency care medicine.”
