Plan "B" when giving days fail

Blog post from Kimbia about tech failuresThe biggest giving day in Minnesota is Give to the Max Day, but it isn't the only giving day. #GivingTuesday is gaining strength, as is Give Local America, just a few days ago. But this year, Give Local America had a major technology failure which prevented many donors from giving and many charities from enacting their plans.

Our blog post goes into more detail, but an important take-away from Kivi Leroux Miller on this problem is to be sure to never rely on a single, outside link for donations, but to create a link that can be re-directed if there are problems in the future, and at a moment's notice. Contact us if you have questions on how to structure a campaign that is ready for any technology contingency.

M+R Benchmarks 2016

The smart researchers and practitioners at M+R have again released their Benchmark Study about online fundraising, advocacy and organizing. The full report has lots of great, specific reference points and is well worth the read. A specifically important recommendation from M+R is to learn from these campaigns that "our job is not to block the exists, our job is to throw open the doors and welcome people in."

Text image quote from M+R Benchmarks StudyFar too often the concern with fundraising staff is to keep in contact with a prospect or donor no matter what. Sometimes it's the wrong fit, and those folks should be thanked for their time and easily let go. The energy should be much more prominent on the welcoming side, with tools that meet every individual in the channels they want, and not necessarily in just the way a charity would like them to join. It's better long-term stewardship, and it's more successful than fighting attrition.
