$28,000 donated to four community groups

In December we announced a new funding partnership with The Tindall Foundation to support our Families and Social Services Programme across the top of the South Island.  We've completed the first funding round for this partnership and are delighted to confirm donations totalling $28,000 supporting the following community groups.

  • $9,500 to Nelson Budget Service Inc
  • $6,500 to English Language Partners Nelson/Marlborough

The 2016 Beacon of Opportunities released

NBCF has released the 2016 edition of the Beacon of Opportunities – your guide to community giving.  First launched in 2015, the Beacon of Opportunities is a guide to help donors, by taking the guesswork out of giving.  The 2016 edition profiles 33 community organisations operating across the Nelson Tasman region.

A primary aim of the Foundation is to encourage locals to give where you live.  The focus of the Beacon of Opportunities is to help raise awareness of the funding needs of local community projects.

David Kerr, NBCF Executive Officer, said “there is a broad range of charities profiled in this edition. We are delighted to be able to help raise awareness of the tremendous work being done by volunteers and community workers in our region.  Quite simply, these organisations are a key factor in helping create the vibrancy in our community”.

We encourage all residents in Nelson and Tasman to read this guide and support your favoured project/s.  Funds raised through the Beacon of Opportunities are collated by NBCF and the full donation is passed on to the community organisation selected by the donors.

Here's the link to download the Beacon of Opportunities, or contact NBCF on 0800 777 880 to receive your copy.

Julie advised that Nick, Bill and Tim add a broad range of skills, experience and connections to the board as we build on our activity in the community. Community Group Endowment Funds

Donors wishing to support a charity with its long term financial sustainability have several giving options through the Foundation, including contributing to an endowment fund for that organisation.
Endowment contributions are invested in perpetuity with the income distributed annually, providing the named organisation with a reliable revenue stream.  By contributing to a Community Group Endowment Fund, supporters are able to aggregate donations through NBCF for the perpetual benefit of the named charity.
The Foundation is pleased to welcome Brook Waimarama Sanctuary Trust which has just launched an Endowment Fund.  If you are interested in supporting the long term sustainability of the sanctuary, contact NBCF to discuss making a contribution now or as a bequest through your will.
