CHS Choirs to Present Annual Spring Concert

Come hear and support our awesome, award-winning choirs in their Spring Concert Tuesday, May 3, at Holy Angels Church (corner of Sac Avenue and A and M Avenue).

Each of the choirs will be performing several of their favorite UIL competition pieces. Next, all of the men combine to present a traditional Nigerian song with stomping, clapping, tribal calls, and percussion. Then the Chorale and Upperclassmen Women will each present beautiful selections by contemporary composer Eric Whitacre, recently made famous for his compositions and work with the YouTube Virtual Choir. To close out our concert we will recognize our seniors and perform two emotionally-charged traditional concert closers. You won’t want to miss it!

"The HarmoniCats" Show Choir to Present KALEIDOSCOPE - 2016 Show of Many Colors

San Angelo's one and only show choir, The HarmoniCats, will present their 2016 Show “Kaleidoscope” on Friday, May 6.

The show concept features songs that each have to do with a different color of the visible spectrum. Music spanning the last 9 decades of musicals, TV shows, movies, radio hits, and more are all in-use to represent as many colors as possible. In addition to the group’s singing, the soloists, dancing, costumes, and lighting all combine to present a KALEIDOSCOPE of musical styles, moods, and entertainment.

The show is this Friday at 7pm in the Sarah Bernhardt Theater. Tickets are $5 and are available at the door. Faculty and staff get in free with ID. Come experience a wonderful world of color!

CHS Choirs Earn Top Honors at UIL Concert Contest

On April 13, the Central High School Choirs traveled to Andrews for the Annual Regional UIL Concert & Sightreading Contest. This contest is held ONLY once a year in the spring, and unlike most other UIL events, there is only one round of competition – the music groups compete just once and that’s it! Because of that, the expectations are extremely high and the contest is judged at a state-level difficulty. Bands, choirs, and orchestras work toward this for their entire year, because doing well at this contest is the ultimate goal of every Texas music program.

We are so excited to share that all four Choirs from Central received Superior Ratings on the concert portion of the contest. The complete results are as follows:

• Concert Ladies Choir – SUPERIOR in Concert and Excellent in Sightreading
• JV Men’s Choir – SUPERIOR in Concert and Excellent in Sightreading
• Bella Voce Women’s Choir – SUPERIOR in Concert and Excellent in Sightreading
• Varsity Bobcat Chorale – SUPERIOR in Concert and SUPERIOR in Sightreading and received the VARSITY SWEEPSTAKES TROPHY!

While the choir program has a consistent history of sweepstakes awards every year for the past several decades, we are extremely excited because THE BOBCAT CHORALE BROUGHT HOME IT’S FIRST SWEEPSTAKES TROPHY IN OVER 5 YEARS!

You will be able to hear all of the award-winning Central Choirs in their end-of-year spring concert at 7pm on Tuesday, May 3 at Holy Angels Church. We hope to see you there!
