Denice is an instant hit in the Army Reserve
Life has moved at lightning speed for 25-year-old schoolteacher Denice Webb, of Bournemouth, since she joined the Army Reserve by signing on with Dorchester-based C Company, 6 RIFLES.
Two days after the Tuesday parade night when she was attested – the formal Army legal process under which she became Private Webb – Denice received a telephone call from her unit, who knew about her prowess in martial arts.
Just 48 hours after that, she reported ready for action at the Army Martial Arts Association Championships, where the very newest of new recruits met with immediate success – a middleweight silver medal in the Brazilian jiu-jitsu event.

Denice, originally from Coventry, moved to Bournemouth 18 months ago to teach at Somerford Primary School, Christchurch. Read more.

Leila hits the high notes with Army Reserve band
Of the thousands of men and women who serve in the Army Reserve, 24-year-old Leila Jones, a law graduate from Paignton, is proud to claim a unique distinction – as the only person recruited solely for her talent as a singer.
Musician Jones parades with HQ Company, 6 Rifles, at Wyvern Barracks, Exeter, which is also the base for The Rifles’ Salamanca Band and Bugles.
While she’s happy to help out the instrumentalists by playing the cymbals occasionally, her specialist role is up front, performing at ceremonial engagements or singing her favourite soul at less formal occasions. Read more. To see and hear Leila in action, click her photograph above.
