Despair Not: Love-in-Action Needs You!

While on retreat this past weekend at Deer Park monastery (I took the picture of the flowers you see above at the retreat), I listened to Sister Mai Nghiem’s dharma talk about climate change and our ecological crises. She said that loving action (nonviolence!) is "the antidote to despair," advice we could apply to the US elections.

Between the hateful rhetoric, reports of voter fraud and influence of money, it’s not surprising that many of us feel despair, regardless of where we fall on the political spectrum. But despair doesn’t get us anywhere.

Can we evolve our fear, anger and frustration into loving, nonviolent action? Can we carry the momentum of political organizing into transforming society for the better? Can we heal political divides and connect, as Soneile Hymn suggests?

Taking loving action, together, is our greatest hope.

A Doctrine for Peace

On Peace Paradigm Radio, we pick up with our discussion on the Just War doctrine. We look at how Nonviolent Peaceforce and Catholic activists are working, with success, to change the face of conflict as we know it.

How can nonviolent methods replace this "just war" theory? Mel Duncan and Eli McCarthy join us for this most relevant conversation.

Historic Conference

Last month, the Vatican hosted a 3-day conference to reconsider the "just war" theory that has been part of Catholic social teaching for some 1,700 years. Importantly, conference participants called on the pope to write an encyclical on nonviolence. Read our op-ed on it.

Volunteer Offerings for Yogis & Readers

Yoga Teachers:
We seek your wisdom! We're creating a program that weaves asana, meditation and nonviolence. Would you like to contribute feedback once we've outlined the program? If so, please email us for info: info@mettacenter.org. Thanks for all you do to bring greater peace and healing into the world.

Reading Fans:
We have some Peace Paradigm Radio transcriptions in the works, and we'd love your input on how they read. Each reading "assignment" takes just 1–2 hours per week. Your help would make a big difference in our ability to engage more people with our radio content. If interested, please email Peace Paradigm host Stephanie Van Hook: stephanie@mettacenter.org. Thanks in advance!
