From the Desk of the VP of Regional Chapters

It’s a busy time within the DMTF and our Regional Chapter Committee (RCC) continues to keep pace with the rest of the organization. DMTF’s first regional chapter, the China Chapter, was established in 2013 and is making progress in both technical work and marketing while expanding our international reach.

Due to the ongoing trend in China of public, private and hybrid cloud adoption, DMTF standards work has experienced even greater expansion. Last year, the China Chapter launched its website where visitors have access to translated DMTF content and specification documents available in Chinese. Documents on the Cloud Infrastructure Management Interface (CIMI) are available for download and users can soon look forward to translated versions of the Redfish specification, Cloud Auditing Data Federation standard and the Open Software Defined Data Center white paper.

For the third year in a row, DMTF’s China Chapter hosted the International Cloud Computing Standardization Forum where DMTF Vice President of Alliances John Leung of Intel provided an update on DMTF’s cloud standardization efforts as part of the 8th China Cloud Computing Conference (CCCC) in Beijing. The China Chapter’s efforts over the past three years have demonstrated that there is great potential within regional chapters!

The RCC will continue to create and drive broad industry adoption of DMTF established standards and specifications throughout China and beyond. We’ll explore additional opportunities for other initiatives in different regions. Thanks to the contributions of our members, this growth is possible now more than ever. We look forward to even greater success in the future!

DMTF Releases Redfish Standard Updates

Continuing its aggressive development timeline, the latest specification and schemas for DMTF’s Redfish standard are now available. Designed to meet the expectations of end users for simple, modern and secure management of scalable platform hardware, DMTF’s Redfish is an open industry standard that specifies a RESTful interface and utilizes JSON and OData to help customers integrate solutions within their existing tool chains.

Now available for download, the 2016.1 publication includes new Redfish schemas for AttributeRegistry, Bios, Drive, Memory, MemoryCollection, MemoryMetrics, SecureBoot, Storage, StorageCollection and Volume. In addition, this release includes minor updates to the Chassis, ComputerSystem, Event, Manager, Power, Resource, SimpleStorage and Thermal schemas, along with all previously released schemas using updated file naming conventions.

Released separately as a Work in Progress (WIP) for public comment, the DSP8010-WIP-2016.0.9a publication includes new Redfish schemas for providing firmware update services (UpdateService, FirmwareInventory) and PCIe switch and device management (PCIeDevice, PCIeFunction, PCIePort, PCIeSwitch, and PCIeZone, and respective Collection schemas).

In addition, DMTF has released version 1.0.2 of the Redfish Scalable Platforms Management API Specification, which defines the protocols, data model, and behaviors for Redfish.
