'Styling' New Website in the Making, Dribbble Meetup, Google Gboard & Huskies.

The month of May was a mix of new. New site, new official member of Dribbble, new programs to use and new skills added to my arsenal. It also included a few firsts. First time at a Dribbble meetup, first time winning a Dribbble contest and first live stream of Google I/O conference. Top level domain name .blog is now a reality, take a look at struggles artists go through and get into Flex. Checkout what May had to bring and usher in June with me with some great knowledge building and experiences.

Beta Launch of JoStylez - Miami
Enter My World of Style | JoStylez - Miami
JoStylez is a Miami based hairstylist and makeup artist I had the pleasure of working with. During the month of April I worked on creating a website I started a while back. The site opens up with an invitation to enter her world of style and goes on to display her works. View this beta test as I continue to work on making the site responsive, adhere to accessibility guidelines and fill in content. Visit beta site. I'm also asking for feedback as I continue to make strides in improving this site. Want to help? Please let me know what you think.

Help me improve this site. If you find any issues please email me or fill out this form. Any suggestions you have can help both the design and making me a better designer. Or if you just want to tell about your love of the site feel free to contact me or the hairstylist/makeup artist Jolika. Voice your opinions on Twitter (@Katdelorme @JoStylezMiami), Facebook (Katdelorme-Katdesign theeJoStylez), Instagram (_jostylez), LinkedIn or Behance.

Did I Just Learn Sketch and Principle In a Day?
Learning Sketch and Principle at my first Dribbble meetup.

A storytelling piece on my first Dribbble meetup. After downloading the programs just moments before the event the instructor gave a rapid lesson on using the two programs, ui design and fast prototyping. Things were actually making sense after having a quick break down and being thrown into the fire to learn. I was actually, dare I say it...

Dribbble - Login to Sketch and Principle
Katherine Delorme's Sketch and Principle creation of a login

The "show and tell for designers", Dribbble is a site where designers can post shots of their creations and show what they are working on. I was finally drafted and received an invitation to Dribbble. My first shot is an animated gif I created using Sketch App and Principle App, two programs I learned in a sitting at a Dribbble meetup. My first creation and animation with the programs. Check it out.

🎉Thanks to this piece I'm excited to announce I won the Dribbble Meetup Contest and a Sketch App full license.🎉

Coming Soon: New .Blog Domains for Websites

WordPress - Automattic, WordPress parent company acquired .blog top level domain name and is releasing them this year. "For years, .com was the dominant choice for website names, but it’s become increasingly difficult to find a name. With a top-level domain like .blog, you can get a name that truly matches your identity. Plus, you’ll get all the same benefits with Google search results."  View article.

"Artists can't pay the rent with exposure"

Creative Bloq - A Sainsbury's supermarket in Camden Road, north London, asks artists to voluntarily provide their service with quite an order for £0. For some the words in this ad may strike a cord and sound oh so familiar. In this Creative Bloq piece "Supermarket's request for free art gets the response it deserves" graphic designers and creative directors slam the ad with one artist responding in the ads own style.  View article.

A CodePen IO demo that made me go whoa 😲. Properties for flex containers and flex items can be viewed, going through each choice as it animates to display what each property does. View article.

New from Google: An iPhone keyboard with GIFs, Emoji, Glide Typing, and Google Search built in! The Gboard looks really slick. Check it out! 😉

🔥 Firebase is arguably the biggest thing Google announced at Google I/O (live May 18 - 20) and has the chance to become a really important mobile development platform for startups and a great alternative Parse which Facebook is shutting down later this year. Read more on it at https://firebase.google.com. Google I/O was a great event even described as Coachella lite for developers. For those unable to attend physically like myself it was still thrilling to get the opportunity to live stream it from the comforts of one's own computer.
