Keyboard Apps
Happy Friday, My Nerdy BFF!

You guys frequently write to me about how the apps I share make your lives easier, but this story was the best:

A Story that Touched Me
A friend's mother was just diagnosed with ALS, a debilitating disease that robs people of control of their muscles. Her mom is struggling with her fingers, and I told my friend about Microsoft Word Flow.

The keyboard app now helps her mom communicate because the keyboard can turn so she can operate it with one hand. I'm so happy to have provided a resource that gives her relief. And I'm so lucky to be able to help others as well.

Keyboards from Microsoft and Google
So in honor of my friend's mom, this is keyboard week. Please click here to read about some groundbreaking new mobile keyboards that add features you never thought of.

Cool Keyboard

Hope you have a beautiful weekend!

PS -- Great news... the big email hack from last week was a hoax. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't read this post about getting your passwords under control.

PPS -- Android people, please don't be mad. These two new keyboards are iOS only right now. Here's a list of great apps for Android devices

PPPS -- Breaking news: I snore. Read the Laugh of the Week to see how I know for sure.

There's Got to Be a Better Way!
This NerdWords feature has become one of the most popular sections ever! You pose the questions, and our nerdy community answers.

This Week

Kyle K. asks an important (and fun) question:

Which restaurants/stores offer the best reward programs/apps?
I mean, besides the Starbucks app, of course. :)

It's no fun if no one plays. Tell Kyle what apps work for you...

Last Week

No questions came in last week for “Help A Nerd Out,” so here’s my question: What was your first gadget? An iPod? A Walkman? A record player? Who bought it for you? And how much did you use it?

Oh my gosh... you guys really treasured your first gadgets. Read your cute memories here...
Tech of the Week: Keyboard Apps
These two brand new apps transform your regular old keyboards into something special.
  • Gboard
Google's new iOS app turns your keyboard into a Google search engine and GIF finder, plus it adds features to help you type faster and more accurately.
  • Word Flow
Microsoft's popular keyboard is now available on iOS. The best feature is the ability to turn the keyboard so you can type with one hand.

Giving makes me happy
My dear husband would never tell anyone that his beautiful, elegant wife can snore like a Klingon. But I've been trying out sleep apps that monitor my talking, tossing, turning and, apparently, relentless snoring.

While the Sleep Talk Recorder app is amusing, it's also helpful for monitoring your sleep patterns. Set the app to record from your nightstand, and it will kick on every time you make a noise. In the morning, you can playback the evidence and enjoy clips of other people's night noises that they choose to share.
