Another successful Beans & Sprouts!

We were blessed with a perfect Autumn day for our second Beans & Sprouts Family Day event on April 23. With numbers up on the September event, it was a resounding success and we'd like to thank all the families who came along and enjoyed the event. Thanks also to all our terrific food and entertainment suppliers (particularly our hard-working face-painters and balloon animal creator!). And last but not least - thanks to our volunteer Committee members for all their help. There are a bunch of photos up on the City South Facebook page here and we hope to host our next event in the October school holidays.

Meet your Federal Candidates Forum Thurs June 9

The South West City Community Association has scheduled a Federal Candidates Forum on Thursday June 9 at the South West Community Centre (171 Sturt Street) to introduce those standing for the Federal Seat of Adelaide at the upcoming Federal election. The format sees each candidate speaking for no longer than 5 minutes, then the Forum will open up to questions from the floor. After the Forum, candidates are invited to stay for a shared light supper in order to chat with voters.

Registrations still open for Umbrella

Whilst you may not appear in the printed guide due out on June 1 in the Scenestr mag, you can still register your music gigs happening between July 15 to August 7 at the Umbrella website here to be a part of this new Winter Festival and be included in the online and app guides.

Get your votes in for The City Awards

Voting in The City Newspaper's City Awards is open until June 3, and we invite everyone to get behind the great businesses that reside in the City South precinct!
In the Small Bar Category, you'll find newbie 55ml alongside established favourites Cantina Sociale and Vietnamese Laundry, while Etica and Thai Chef are listed in the Best Established Restaurant category. Bliss Organic and Cafe Troppo deserve your vote in the Best Cafe section, as does Ladle of Love in the Lunch-on-the-Run group. The Hotel Wright Street and The Gilbert are definitely up there as candidates for Best Beer Garden, and all of our great locals are listed in the Best Pub/Bar category. Great to see a number of our local Galleries appearing in the Best Cultural Space listing, and institutions like Angelakis, Theatre Costume Shop, Lana Lang and La Trattoria all vying for the gong in the Retail Hall of Fame category!
Click on the link here to submit your votes. And remember...just because a particular business isn't listed, doesn't mean you can't put in a vote for them!

Hospitality News

Our Precinct boasts a great new Small Bar venue that has opened at 55 Mill Street, cleverly named 55ml. Tucked away behind Gouger Street at the King William Street end, the bar has an earthy feel with exposed brick walls, lots of timber and cool art pieces. There is a great writeup about it by CityMag which you can find here or suss out their Facebook page here...In less positive news, it seems the Hotel Wright Street will close at the end of the year, after being purchased by Chinese investors who will be redeveloping the site. It will be such a pity to see this great establishment go.
