We hope you all enjoyed National Volunteer Week recently. We at The Centre for Volunteering were pleased to celebrate all the hard work of our volunteers during the week! The Centre started off celebrations with the National Volunteer Week Forum, held at Parliament House. Our guest speaker, Dr Thomas Nielsen, ambassador for 2016 National Volunteer Week, presented on the topic of "Giving: A Strong Predictor of Health & Happiness" which met with a great response. If you want to see highlights from the event visit our website. Also, you'll see some of the celebrations from around the state where Volunteer Centres created giant Vs to remind communities of the huge contribution of volunteering to society.
There was plenty of activity during the month, with the NSW Government finalising their response to the IPART recommendations on the Opal Card. We are thrilled that the final outcomes saw seniors who make up a large part of our volunteering community, maintain access to the Gold Opal card with no change to the cap. You can visit our website to see the full details. During National Volunteer Week, Minister Ajaka launched his government's new volunteering strategy. Go to our website for details.
We have a number of events coming up that will help empower you in your work. Alongside our professional development workshops and networking events, The NSW Volunteering Symposium will be held on Monday, June 27. Our speakers will be present ideas for growing volunteering into the future, so we hope to see you there.
We also want to highlight the upcoming Do Something Day on June 15, 2016. We at The Centre will be holding a working bee - we encourage you to Do Something too. For more details visit the official website.
Regards,
Gemma
