Upcoming Events

May 18th, 2016 (4:00 pm - 6:00 pm)
Point Breeze Solar Array
7211 Thomas Blvd Pittsburgh, PA 15208 United States
Presented by: Green Building Alliance

Fred Kraybill is a Nursing Supervisor at Pittsburgh’s VA Medical Center and part owner of Thomas Blvd. Group, a small business that rents apartments in Pittsburgh’s Point Breeze neighborhood. Thomas Blvd. Group is a solar-powered business with a ground and roof solar array (which we learned about on a tour last summer), along with a geothermal system for heating (and an on-site electric vehicle!). Fred’s geothermal installation is unusual because it uses the building’s hot water radiators to distribute the geothermal heat, unlike most systems which distribute through forced air or radiant floors. Now that both the solar and geothermal systems have been operating for the past year, Fred can share insights about how the systems have been working over time.

WEBINAR
Presented by: Clean Energy States Alliance

This webinar will look at the future of the electric grid and states’ approaches to grid modernization. The presentation by Cameron Brooks will be based on research that he recently featured in an article in Public Utilities Fortnightly. He found that states are tending to fall into two categories: ones where policy is moving toward more open market solutions and ones that are inclined toward expanding the vertical integration model. The webinar will highlight issues that RPS program managers, utility commission staff, and other state officials can consider as they think about the future of the grid.

Presenter: Cameron Brooks, President, E9 Insight

A new analysis released today by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) shows that federal renewable energy tax credits in combination with the Clean Power Plan provide an affordable way to accelerate the transition to clean energy, deliver significant economic and public health benefits, and make progress toward meeting the United States’ international climate goals.

This report, "Energy Efficiency Finance for Commercial Buildings: Insights from Lenders," reveals structural and outreach problems have largely frozen massive investment opportunities — close to $72 billion opportunities. . .What factors are at the root of this apathy? Building owners are highly skeptical energy retrofits will deliver reliable returns on investment, according to an article Clean Energy Finance Forum published in January 2015.

Richard Northcote, chief sustainability officer at Covestro, announced the undertaking on Wednesday at the Energy Efficiency Global Forum in Washington D.C., where Covestro joined the recently launched campaign 'Energy Productivity 100' (EP100). The campaign is part of The Climate Group, an NGO with members including pioneers from the worlds of business, politics and society who are working together to lower emissions on the planet. The companies taking part in the EP100 are committed to demonstrating their roles as leaders in energy efficiency, to boost their energy productivity -- in other words, to increase economic output from the energy they use -- and thus pave the way forward to a future of clean energy supplies. Covestro is one of the first companies to join the EP100 initiative and hopes to be seen by other businesses as a role model.

State officials, including Treasury Secretary Timothy Reese and Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Quigley, gathered at the South Philadelphia home of Lizzie Rothwell and John Beauregard on Thursday to announce resumption of the Keystone Home Energy Loan Program.

Rothwell and Beauregard used a loan from the program to insulate their 800-square-foot South Seventh Street rowhouse and upgrade its systems two years ago.

KeystoneHelp, as the program is known, provided loans totaling $110 million to 14,000 homeowners statewide in the eight years after it began in 2006.
