On the noticeboard at rehearsals there is now an A4 sheet with the Committee Members' names and photos. Tour 2016 - Please Read

The Summer Tour is booking up so get book your spaces as soon as possible if you'd like to come. Partners are welcome to come along too so why not make a social weekend out of it?

We find that we have more tour deposits than we have booking forms which either means that somebody has paid twice or one of the booking forms has gone missing.  To resolve this problem will all members who have booked to go on tour please check in with David, who will be stationed by the entrance to Coopers Hall on Wednesday, to ensure your booking details are in order.

Concert Feedback

Thank you to everyone who gave feedback about our Spring concert. All feedback was discussed at the recent NES Committee Meeting. For those who gave feedback via email, I (Jenny) have replied to you however we thought it would be worthwhile giving everyone some feedback regarding the staging of concerts:

We have received a number of comments from members relating to the location and timing of our concerts. The Committee discussed all feedback received - in general we follow the following principles:

The venue
  • Must be capable of accommodating a choir of around 100 members.
  • Has space for an audience approaching 200 as well as the choir.
  • Has good acoustics.
  • Ideally has a good built in sound system.  We can get around this by employing our own sound man but this adds to concert cost and brings another availability factor into play.
  • Is available early enough in the day to allow erection of staging, and technical rehearsal before the concert; and available with sufficient time after the concert for all our equipment to be dismantled and removed.
  • Has a space where our chosen charity can sell refreshments during the interval.
  • Has nearby car parking for choir and audience.
  • Has reasonable access for delivery of our staging.

Location
  • Ideally a venue in Egham or as geographically close to Egham as possible. We have used a notional 8 mile travel distance from Egham in looking for venues.
Timings
  • Ideally a Saturday which allows us to hold a full technical rehearsal with staging erected, sound system operational and with technician on hand to adjust, and with as little saving of seats for absent members as possible.  It also means that more members are likely to be available for collecting, transporting and erecting staging.
  • Saturday has less interference with the weekday activities of choir members , our MD and our accompanist.
  • We have held concerts on Fridays in particular our Christmas concert at St John’s Church in Egham which is not available to us on Saturday.  Doing this always means that we need to hold our technical rehearsal on the Wednesday before our concert when we do not have our staging erected, some members are not able to attend because of work commitments, and we rely on the availability of the sound technician to carry out sound checks – not an ideal situation when we are aiming to put on as professional a performance as possible.  We get way with this at Christmas because of the number of audience participation carols and a carefully selected choir repertoire.
  • Friday also means that we have to collect our staging at times to fit in with the activities of the school where we store our equipment and hope that there are enough members available to carry out the transportation and erection at those times.
If you know of any venues that meet these criteria please make sure that the committee is aware of them.
