Volume 22 Number 33 05/12/2016

For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. 1 Thessalonians 5:9-10
MISSION STATEMENT
Heritage School provides a distinctive classical Christ-centered education that prepares students for servant leadership and lives that glorify God.

Senior Thesis

The seniors can breathe a sigh of relief this week after defending their thesis before a panel of community professionals all pictured below.   The goal of the thesis for the senior is to rigorously challenge their thought processes while affirming the student’s effort.  The panelists challenge and discuss student’s ideas, facts, and perspectives.  Each defense lasted approximately 90 minutes

Important Notices

Your Child's Safety is Important!

Heritage School has the safety of our students in mind as we post new signs on the playground.  We welcome student activity at Heritage School.  However, we ask that if your student would like to play on the playground after school hours, a parent or guardian must directly supervise their play.  Thank you for your cooperation!
Please note that Heritage School (Herzog Hall) closes daily at 4:00 p.m.  All students must be picked up by 4:00 p.m. unless they are participating in an athletic practice.   Thank you.
ATTENTION PARENTS:  PLEASE do not park in either of the circle drives in front of the school. These are fire lanes as well as drive through lanes and you are hindering the flow of traffic if you park your car there.  Please use the provided parking spaces if you need to park and come into the school.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Tutor Program:

Student Council is happy to announce that tutoring is now available for Upper School Students!  The tutoring program offers a unique opportunity for middle-schoolers to succeed academically with one-on-one help from an experienced Rhetoric school student, and helps strengthen the bond between the members of our Heritage Family.  There are currently 12 tutor-tutee pairs, and sessions usually occur during study halls after lunch (Other times can be arranged depending on the volunteer’s schedule).  Special thanks to all the students who have volunteered to make this possible!  If you are interested in getting a tutor, or if you have any questions, contact Sean O’Leary at soleary97@gmail.com for more information.

Heritage Families of 8th -12th Graders,

This summer will mark our fifth Local Missions Week, a week super-saturated with sweat, hard labor, and sleep deprivation. So, basically it promises to be totally amazing.

We will again partner with Curtis & Sara Allerkamp of Mision de Candelilla, and spend the week camping out along the creek at their property at 888 White Oak Rd.  Our dates will be the afternoon of Sun July 17 --  the morning of Fri July 22.  Cost is estimated to be $250/person, and scholarships are available. Though every cent will be passed along to Mision de Candelilla, is preferred for school to be the collections ‘middle man’, so please make checks payable to Heritage School (memo: Local Missions Week). Every year we have about 15 - 20 participants and our capacity this year will be 20 participants. A deposit of $125 secures your spot.

Our days will be spent doing a host of community service projects in and around Freddyburg and in the evenings our plan is to partner (again) with Oak Hills Church in hosting a community-wide VBS, targeting unchurched pockets of our community.

Every year Local Missions Week proves to be one of the most difficult yet rewarding of the year. LMW is a time of spiritual revival, forging of lasting friendships, and a time of intense personal and communal growth.  It’s amazing what happens when a group of ordinary folks come together, sharing the common mission of simply loving Jesus and loving others...

I’m truly humbled by your children’s eagerness every summer to serve.

Sincerely,

David Turpin

Early College Credit Registration Open for Spring

Central Texas College has opened its registration portal for Summer Classes. You should start the online application process at:   http://www.ctcd.edu/students/prospective-students/how-to-enroll/texas-students/   Complete the one-time online application to CTC, track down your SAT scores and make an appointment with Kristy Kothe at the Hill Country University Center (254-616-3401) You must be a junior or senior to register and are limited to two courses per semester.
More independent souls may find the ONLINE early college offerings at LeTourneau University more suitable: http://www.letu.edu/_Admissions/dualcredit/  Although LETU online students do not have designated online class times, they do have weekly deadlines for graded work. LETU courses cost about $360 each.
Early college credit not only saves thousands of tuition dollars ($328/course at CTC  compared to $950 at A&M and $3636 at Baylor), the gift of time and flexibility in your future college schedule can be more advantageous in pursuing a minor or double major. Also, the seniority attained by early college credit can make a huge difference at freshman registration. Of course, early college credits afford little advantage at all if your chosen major degree plan does not call for those courses or your target college does not accept the transfer. Mrs. Sauer can help you find that information and help you make a plan.
