Independent education:
 the formative years

With independent school pupils three times more likely to get top grades at A-level than state school pupils, there is little surprise, despite the current economic climate, that numerous parents are continuing to opt to send their children to independent schools. Choosing to send one’s child to an independent school aged 4 or aged 11, however, remains an area for debate.

To help pupils learn about where food comes from and the different types of food eaten around the world, Adel, our School Chef, recently created an Italian themed lunch consisting of lasagne followed by tiramisu.

Reception have dived right into their swimming lessons this term! The children have thoroughly enjoyed their lessons and have done a brilliant job at getting changed independently - requiring just a little help with a few buttons!

In PE we have been learning a range of skills in both Athletics and Cricket.

Miss Caitlin has put together a short video to show how the fundamental skills of striking, throwing and catching have been put into a cricket context for Reception. Miss Caitlin also interviewed the pupils to find out what they have learnt over the course of this year, as well as why they think PE is important.

This term, Year 1 and 2 are working collaboratively on their enquiry-led project. They are Art Experts and are investigating and developing their knowledge of art, art history and how art might develop in the future.

As part of their commission, the Experts are required to put on an art exhibition. In planning for this, they collectively agreed they needed to do some research, so to help them do this, they decided to visit the National Art Gallery.
