Successful Sixth Form Apprenticeship Applications

Several of our Sixth Form students have written about the career paths they will be following when they leave West Hatch...

Amy Sowerby - I am going on to a Journalism Apprenticeship with Capital Business Media at Canary Wharf. This will include attending Harlow College for Digital Media.
My choice of A Levels A2 (English Language/Literature, Music, Media Studies) were very important in securing this position.
With a love of writing and an interest in people and events this seemed a natural choice of career. I was lucky enough to gain this apprenticeship through the work experience that I undertook last summer in Year 12. It meant that I did not have to go through an interview as they already knew my work ethic.
This apprenticeship involves working on the magazine Business Matters.

Max Delmonte - I am in my final year of studying BTEC Level 3 in Business. I have applied to the Sandhurst Military Academy as I have always had clear aspirations to have a role in the Army.
The application process has been very vigorous with my initial application being submitted in December.
Alongside the written application I had to attend a briefing day and a taster day.
The physical fitness test is yet to come!
I have been to the academy a number of times where they have been through the role, expectations and selection process.The Candidate Support Manager has been a huge help and has been there to give me advice and guidance throughout the process.
I have yet to make a decision what Regiment I will be applying to.
My choices are:
* The Prince of Wales Royal Regiment
* Grenadier Guards
* The Paratroopers
* The Coldstream Guards
I am nervous and excited about the forthcoming months and the possibility of joining the Sandhurst Royal Military Academy.

Gemma Curtiss - I am studying A2 English Language and Literature, Business Studies and History. Already holding university offers I decided to also apply for a Higher Apprenticeship as I liked the concept of earning why learning with a degree paid for by the employer. This process involved making an online application which led to online skills
testing based on varying situations and different personal characteristics.
After successfully getting through these I was called for an Assessment Day which involved an individual interview, case study and group tasks. It took around a week before being told I was accepted.
My role at British Telecom will be within the HR department including project management and employee relations.

I look forward to the opportunities that working in a multi-national company will offer me.

Morgan Brown - I am studying A2 PE, Sociology and BTEC Travel and Tourism. After completing my high school education I will be going on to study the BTEC Extended Diploma in Horticulture at Capel Manor College, Enfield.
The programme of study will cover Hard and Soft Landscaping, Design, Plant and Soil Science, Propagation and Maintenance of plants, trees, turf and landscapes.
My decision to study this programme has come about by gardening for family and friends.Through this I discovered the enjoyment of working with nature.
I am really looking forward to this course as it will eventually allow me to build an independent business within the landscaping/horticultural industry.

Oliver Stephens - I am joining the Royal Navy - HMS Raleigh Cornwall as an Air Engineering Technician. This role will involve working and maintaining helicopters.
Being part of the Royal Navy will offer the opportunity to develop new skills, serve the country and see the world. Being accepted into the Navy has involved a vigorous application process and skills testing in Maths and English. Mechanics and Problem Solving have been an interesting part of the process. The final assessment is the fitness test.
Being in the service requires a commitment of a minimum of four years to a maximum of 12 years.
Training in a boot camp will initially be undertaken for ten weeks.
The Navy offers a huge range of opportunities to its employees.
