Viva Village has a Vision—help put it into words!

Kathe FWe have a Mission Statement—why do we need a Vision Statement?
  • Our Mission Statement serves us well. As we approach our launch date, a strong Vision Statement will provide focus as we move forward.
  • A Vision Statement inspires, motivates and unifies.
  • It guides decision-making and helps when setting goals.
  • It communicates our purpose to the wider community — those who would be members, volunteers, collaborators, funders, and partners.

Mission … Vision—what's the difference?Viva Village Mission
  • A Mission Statement tells who we are, what we do, whom we do it for, and how we do it. As you can see, our Mission states these very clearly.
  • A Vision Statement is the inspiration that guides our mission and all our actions. It's the optimal goal that we continually strive to achieve.
How can I help?
  • GET CREATIVE. What can you suggest for a strong Vision Statement? We will be discussing our statement at the next Viva Village General Meeting on June 11.
  • ATTEND the next General Meeting on June 11 for a good discussion.

*What makes a good Vision Statement?
  • The best vision statements are inspirational, clear, concise, and memorable.Vision Graphic
Examples (non-Village):
  • The Nature Conservancy: Our vision is to leave a sustainable world for future generations.
  • Teach for America: One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.
Examples (Village):
  • Capital City Village (Austin, TX): A community of seniors creating a virtual village to enable aging in place with dignity, health, fun and social interaction.
  • Lincoln Park Village (Chicago, IL): To be a leader in enriching the experience of aging in our communities and to be a model for the nation.
  • North Star Village (Portland, OR): A mutually supportive community of members will enjoy life to the fullest with confidence, dignity, security and self-respect in their own homes for as long as they are able.

These monthly in-home presentations are the best way to share our message with the community. The warm and welcoming atmosphere makes people feel at home and comfortable, creating a sense of community and mirroring the Village concept.

So… Thank You!!

Host a Village 101
Share the Village message!

Welcome to the 101This is a great way to make a difference. As host, you provide a venue for your friends and neighbors to learn more about Viva Village. One of our trained presenters will be on hand to give the presentation. Other volunteers will help set up (and clean up afterwards), bring snacks, and greet the guests. Your assistance is needed ahead of time to publicize the 101 in your neighborhood through word of mouth, with the flyers provided, by email, and/or nextdoor.com.

Contact us if you would like to host a Village 101:
vivavillage101@gmail.com, or call 503-312-7675

Accessibility Information:
A wheelchair-user may be able to roll part way down the gentle “hard-pack gravel” slope to the wildflowers on the prairie loop—just keep an eye on the gentle upslope to be sure it’s possible to make it back to the top.

Some mobility scooters may be able to make it around the entire Little Prairie loop with its gentle switchbacks.
