This Friday! Purple 80s Nia Jam! A Nia Dance Party at Tula Yoga and Wellness
Friday, May 20, 7-8:30 pm, $20 Pre-register here.
Get ready to dance to some great songs from the 80s with me, Andrea Weiss and Liz Anema. Our musical theme is celebrating the music of Prince with other tunes by artists he worked with, influenced or who inspired him. Grab your purple, your neon spandex, head bands and stripes!
What's a Dance On! Nia Party? It's an extended version of a Nia class for all ages, all genders. We'll guide you with simple Nia choreography, there will be more time for free dance and lots of great music based on the theme of the month. Come to get a sweat on, to move your body after a week of working, to connect with friends in a fun, alcohol/drug-free environment. A Dance On! Nia Party is a chance for YOU to tap into the joy of being alive through movement.
No previous experience required. We dance in bare feet, but shoes are always optional. Please be sure that they are not street shoes. Free parking available in the lot next to the building or on side streets.
Please arrive a few minutes early, especially if you are new to Tula. We'll be locking the front door at 7:10 pm.

This month I'm embarking on a Love Your Liver Detox cleanse. My friend, Julie, known as Nutrition Julie, has a great program that she's running this month that you can be a part of too. I've not done a cleanse before and I was a little nervous about it at first, but Julie has great video resources to help you through it, along with lots of recipes and helpful tips, plus a private Facebook group for everyone doing the cleanse to connect and support each other. We all want to feel good, have energy for all the great things in life that we enjoy and some of us want to lose weight to feel better too. This cleanse can help you with all of that!
You can feel great AND learn to understand your body's own needs by participating in the Love Your Liver Detox cleanse. Watch this video for details!

Want to learn more about Nia?
Several students have asked me about the music I play in class. Almost all of it comes from NiaSounds. Here's a link to checking out the CDs of music that Nia sells. Each of the CDs has a preview option so you can hear the songs first. Enjoy!
This is a great promotional video that describes the many benefits of practicing Nia.
For resources on learning the 52 Moves, you can click on this link.
Nia Black Belt Instructor Donna Starnes takes you through all 52 Moves in these eHow videos.
Another Nia Trainer, Laurie Bass, creates and posts great videos showing herself doing the 52 moves on her Facebook page.
The book, The Nia Technique, by Debbie and Carlos Rosas, founders of Nia is an indispensable reference book and resource for any Nia practitioner.
The meditation book I read from at the end of class is called, Journey to the Heart by Melody Beattie.

Ready to Feel Good in Your Body?
Come dive into the joy of movement! Nia is a unique combination of nine movement forms drawn from dance, martial arts and healing arts. We move our entire bodies in a healthful, sustainable way and become aware of sensations in our bodies. We dance and move in Nia to sense joy and pleasure, not pain. Nia is for all fitness abilities and all ages. Nia can be an intense aerobic workout or more easy and gentle depending the level of intensity you bring to the movement.
Dress in comfortable clothes, that you are willing to get sweaty in. We dance in bare feet, but shoes are optional. Bring a water bottle. Bring a yoga mat if you like that for the floor play part of class.
If you have any questions about Nia or the classes/events listed here, please send me an e-mail or give me a call, 612-802-9127.
Yours in the dance of life,
Beth
