Dear Parents

What a great day we had for our Field events on Monday. Everything appeared to go very smoothly, and all students participated with great enthusiasm. Thank you to the Sport Committee for organising the day. Thank you also to the Xavier students who came along to help out and to the parents who were able to assist. We really appreciate your support. We look forward to our Track Events next Monday, 23rd May. Infants will attend at Alexandra Park from 11.30am to 1pm.

Yesterday we held our Beginning of Term Mass. I thank Father Reece Beltrame for saying the Mass for us. It was a great honour for us to have Father Reece there. He is an ex-student of St Patrick’s. Thanks to Mrs Fawcett and the students who helped out during the Mass.

The Year 3 students and their families will be sharing a meal with Father Joel this evening at 5.45. These students are continuing their preparation to receive their First Communion on Sunday 29th May. Please keep them, their parents and teachers in your prayers as they continue their preparation.

We have started interviews for Kinder 2017 this week. If you have a student for enrolment or know of anyone wishing to enrol, could you please contact the office for an enrolment package.

A Reflection on last Sunday’s Gospel: Pentecost

Jesus came and stood among them and said to them,  ‘Peace be with you’. After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As I have been sent, even so I send you’. And when he had said this, he breathed on them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit’.  (John 20: 19 – 22)

The word ‘Pentecost’ means ‘fiftieth day’ in Greek. It commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples as tongues of fire. It also marks the end of the Easter Season, and is often called the birthday of the Church as it was from this event that the disciples went forth to spread the Good News and establish the Church.

RJ Shield Chess Tournaments are held in several locations throughout Victoria. This year Yarrawonga Community Workshop, YCP-12. will hosts three of these tournaments at Charles Sturt University Thurgoona, to promote chess within the wider region. These tournaments are run in conjunction with Chess Kids Australia. All proceeds are donated to the the workshop for supplies.

This is a great way for students to exercise their mental muscles and a great way to spend a Sunday, meeting new people and improving chess skills.

The 2016 Fire & Rescue NSW (FRNSW) Fire Station Open Day will take place on Saturday, 21 May.

Fire Stations across the state will be open from 10am to 2pm giving NSW residents, especially children, a chance to meet their local firefighters, and see fire engines and firefighting equipment up close.

Headed into winter, Fire Station Open Day is also a great opportunity to learn more about fire prevention.

A range of free activities will be on offer including firefighting demonstrations, station tours and fire safety presentations, including advice about installing smoke alarms, changing smoke alarm batteries and preparing a home fire escape plan.

Visit www.fire.nsw.gov.au for more information.
