Lewisham Music Hub is running a two day Rock and Pop School on 31 May and 1 June from 10am-3pm for musicians wanting to develop their guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and vocal skills. Participants will get an introduction into the world of a working musician as well as gaining experience performing in bands and working with other young musicians.

If you are a young musician aged 9-13 and play an orchestral brass, percussion, string or woodwind instrument to grade 1 level or above then come and join Lewisham Junior Orchestra and musicians from the London Symphony Orchestra for 3 days of exciting music making.
The project will involve a commitment to three dates as follows:
Thursday 2 June, 10am-3pm - venue TBC
During this session the Lewisham Junior Orchestra will be visited by Fraser Trainer and LSO musicians
Sunday 12 June, 9am-12.45pm - LSO St Luke’s, 161 Old Street, London, EC1V 9NG
Collective rehearsal with Bexley North Borough Orchestra
Thursday 16 June, 1.30-7.15pm: Takeover Performance Day - St Giles Church, Fore Street, Cripplegate, London, EC2Y 8DA and Barbican Centre, Silk Street, EC2Y 8DS

The Mayor’s Music Fund in partnership with Lewisham Music Service are pleased to announce that nominations are now open for music scholarships starting in September 2016
Scholarships are available for Key Stage Two students from non-fee-paying London schools who are demonstrating significant potential on their musical instrument, but whose families find it difficult to meet the cost of tuition.
Nominated scholars must be able to take advantage of the following from September 2016:
Weekly instrumental tuition at a suitably challenging level, normally in small groups (2-6 per group) or, in exceptional circumstances, one-to-one
Compulsory attendance at a weekly ensemble of a suitably challenging level
Regular performance opportunities at school, music service and elsewhere
Invitations to attend special projects and go on trips to professional concerts
A well maintained instrument which can be taken home
A named Mentor who is the liaison between the Scholar and family, music tutor, school and Music Service

The deadline for nominations is by 5pm on Wednesday 18 May.

Book further one to one surgeries
At the end of the morning you will:
Have a better understanding of the need to plan your projects
Have improved knowledge of project planning
Be better equipped to write quality project plans and stronger funding applications
Join us to share progress to date and take a strategic approach to the delivery of Arts Award across Greenwich and Lewisham

The Royal Borough of Greenwich, Lewisham Education Arts Network (LEAN) and Greenwich Dance are partners in the Local Arts Award Area Network. This initiative aims to support schools, arts organisations, artists, arts award supporters and centres and all those interested in helping children and young people develop as artists and arts leaders through Arts Award. This network is supported by A New Direction, London's leader in cultural education, and will focus on the boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham.

Beyond the Dots is a three-day intensive course for younger musicians aged 11 – 19 that will feature a mix of classes with inspirational teachers, creative group work and sessions that explore what it means to be a young musician in the 21st century, taking your musicianship ‘Beyond the Dots’.
Delivered in a supportive nurturing atmosphere, this innovative new course will include:
Short group sessions led by inspirational music leaders
Ensemble work coached by professional musicians
A varied programme of specialist classes, ranging from traditional masterclasses, to jazz jams and looping technology
Creative sessions working towards development of a completely new work led by a cutting edge artist
An end of summer school informal showcase celebrating and sharing what’s been created over the course
We welcome multi-instrumentalists, young musicians curious about expanding their skills in new areas of music, and classical musicians up for a challenge.
Trinity Laban is pleased to announce a limited number of subsidised places at £70 (normal price £210) for young musicians to attend Beyond the Dots
The number of subsidised places available is limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served-basis to young people who are able to evidence eligibility for Free School Meals or whose parents/ guardians / carers are in receipt of means tested benefits (income support, job seekers allowance).

Noise Report is a club night featuring a collective of audio & visual artists, experimenting with the combination of their respective art forms in the same space to create immersive audio-visual experiences.
The night features new, forward-thinking music, often productions from our residents, with an emphasis on techno - but no restriction on genre. There is an element of improvisation, so you never quite know what environment will be created, but two things are for sure: music to make you move and an atmosphere to make you feel welcome.

Award-winning artist Lizzie Emeh returns with new music from her latest EP My Baboo.
Blending soul, R&B and jazz with powerful lyrics she produces her own unique
soulful sound. On the night she will be showcasing tracks from the EP and many more.
Lizzie will be joined on stage by a 10 piece live band including band members from Grace Jones’ live band. There will be also be support from singer-songwriter Junior Williams and DJ sets by Julie Brickley & Castro Degia.
Lizzie’s music is produced by creative arts organisation Heart n Soul.

You will be introduced and given an insight into the collections held at the archives. Find out how you can access the archives with your pupils to develop various historical skills and contextual knowledge. Find out how Artsmark can work in your setting at our twilight Discover Artsmark session. Our Artsmark officer will introduce and creatively explore the new award, support participants to share and develop best practice in the arts in their own setting, and prepare schools to enter the new Artsmark process. The session is suitable for all school phases, and for existing Artsmark schools as well as newcomers to the award.
