Message from Craig King,
Executive Director

We did it!

I am very pleased to announce that we reached our Silicon Valley Gives fundraising goal with $8,190 contributed by seventeen generous donors. These funds will help support social recreation and classroom learning activities and will develop more new job opportunities. We're especially pleased that over the past year, we placed twelve Day Program consumers in part-time positions working at BJs and McDonalds restaurants. We'd like to find some paid office opportunities that could include filing, copying, shredding and other clerical support tasks. We invite our community supporters to talk with us and explore how to engage our amazing workforce of talented and eager individuals in your business.

Volunteer with us!

Once a week, Ryan Greenblum and her daughter Sheerly volunteer at Greater Opportunities in our Day Program. They help with various activities such as cooking, art, computers, music and more. Sheerly really enjoys teaching the consumers computer skills. She works with three consumers at a time, they pick a subject to research, they come up with questions, and she teaches them how to use the internet how to find answers to their questions. Ryan often teaches cooking classes to two groups at a time. From cookies to pasta to chicken dishes, they have been busy cooking up tasty dishes that they eat at the end of class.

“It is amazing to see the interaction between the staff and the consumers, but also how kind and gentle the consumers are to each other,” says Ryan. She understands how challenging it can be taking care of an adult with a disability, as Sheerly has high functioning autism and requires much patience and understanding. Ryan says, “Volunteering at Greater Opportunities has been truly rewarding for both of us.” If you would like to get involved and make a difference, we would love to have you join us!
