Welcomes & Good-byes
My most heart-felt thank yous go out to Theresa Hopkins (PTO Treasurer), Cassie Schmitt (School Board Secretary), Julie Till (School Board President), and Bob Bainbridge (School Board) who have served the school community tirelessly and admirably. I can honestly say that their efforts have made a positive difference in the climate of our school community.
Please join me in welcoming Kristen Jensen (new PTO Treasurer) and our three new School Board members, Marnie Barnett, Amy Holle and Brad Kegler.
Summer Reading Instructions
As students complete their summer reading, they are required to take the associated Reading Counts test. This year, students may access the Reading Counts test from any computer at any time. Begin by going to our website: http://www.stjohneagles.com. At the bottom of the Homepage, you'll find the initial access point. Once you get to the Student Access page, please click on the Reading Counts! box. That will take you to the log-in page that all of our students are accustomed to. They have memorized their log-in and password. If you have any questions or problems, please contact either Mr. Gieryng or Ms. Hauschild via email.
Those students who read seven or more books and pass the associated Reading Counts tests will be welcome to join me for breakfast during one of the first weeks of school.
Field Day
Thank you volunteers! The weather cooperated (for most of the day) and the students had a great time. We could not have held such a wonderful event without our parent volunteers. So, on behalf of the students of St. John, please accept our deepest gratitude for the generous donation of your time.
Save the date
Ice Cream Social, August 12, 5 - 7pm. More details will follow, but like last year (and thanks to the PTO), the ice cream is free.
Summer Chess Program
I have contacted several chess clubs who have agreed to conduct chess meets with our school next year. Therefore, I am offering 'intense' coaching sessions this summer on the following Wednesdays, from 10 - 11am. If your student is already a member of the Chess Club, the coaching sessions are free of charge. If your student is not a a member, he/she is welcome, at a cost of $20. You do not need to sign up; simply show up on any of the following dates: 5/25, 6/1, 6/8, 6/15, 6/29, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3 & 8/10. I have also documented these dates on our website's school calendar.
