We have exciting news to share with you. Dirk Niepoort, one of the world's most important winemakers, has entrusted his latest creation, the audacious Clos de Crappe, to us.

What the hell is Clos de Crappe?
Clos de Crappe is a thrilling new adventure from Dirk Niepoort, made in a bold, risk-taking way, with an entrancing result that is causing a stir in wine circles. Dirk continues to push the boundaries of what can be expressed by old Douro vineyards planted with indigenous local grapes. This unique, fine red wine is made from a blend of fruit from high altitude vineyards in Portugal's iconic Douro valley.
"We were bitching about some negociant Burgundy one day and I came up with the name Clos de Crappe," recalls Theatre of Wine owner, Daniel Illsley. Dirk's eyes lit up. "I like that. I have an idea." Two years later, the wine has come to market. "To make Clos de Crappe we tore up the rule book. Whole bunches, wild yeasts, minimal sulphur - the team thought I'd lost my mind," Dirk says.
So what's it like? “It was love at first taste,” says Daniel. “The whole bunches are apparent on the stemmy, funky nose, and the palate is both ethereal and rich, with a creamy texture - like the Burgundy of your dreams!”
But you don't have to take our word for it. You can taste Clos de Crappe for yourself at one of our stores. We'll have bottles open, in true Theatre of Wine style, on the following dates:
